p.1 #1 · Haoge Dedicated Square Metal Lens Hood - GM 24/1.4

In case anyone might be interested...

I was previously using one of their many screw mount square metal hoods that happened to be for 67mm lens threads for about the last 7 years. While looking for a square hood for my new Sigma 12/1.4, I stumbled across an Amazon posting for the Haoge LH-S24B, which is a square metal lens hood they made specifically for the Sony GM 24 (meaning it mounts just like the OEM hood unlike the rest of their normal screw mount hoods).

While the screw mount one I was previously using was generally fine, it would yield some odd light streaks in difficult sunny conditions at times. Also, the old version was already a size savings, but this newer version is flush without the screw mount mechanism and looks much cleaner.

I have Haoge rectangular hoods on several of my smallish prime lenses; like the GM 24mm, GM 35mm, Sigma i-Series, etc. They are well-made, functional and in shooting position more compact than the OEM counterparts. They are not cheap though... I use neoprene hoodie caps on them, BTW.

I'm a sucker for these types of hoods because I too, love the look. But beyond that, I like the form factor so much more than pedal hoods.

Same on my end. I've amassed quite an assortment of them in various thread sizes over the years. This is the first non-screw mount one I've had for a Sony lens though. Prior to this, I had only used the OEM square/rectangular hoods with Fuji glass. Also, not sure why the sales listings always have these listed as square, as you are absolutely correct that they are clearly rectangular.

I am addicted to square hoods, it's hard to do without them now. They help soften the look you have for street people too, they don't look like surveillance gear or weapons.

I tend to use Haoge square “crushed” can type of hoods that all come with a cover that simply slips on.

Both types, that support the bayonet mount are easy to use but equally expensive. I have them for Sony, Canon, Fujifilm, and Sigma lenses.
