p.1 #1 · Selling items south of the border.

Seems that the de minimis clause change went in effect and so Canada Post is now asking the payment of tariffs by country of manufacture upfront when I ship.

The % varies but start to be significant. Selling an item from Japan is 30%. Seems that some carriers make it that it is left to be collected from the recipient on delivery.

What are people doing? I include the amount in my price up front or leave a note about the payment on delivery?

I’ve always listed my items as an amount net to me, but this is getting really expensive for buyers and don’t want to appear as misleading them. On smaller items, I don’t mind taking most of it on smaller items, but for larger ones, I will try and sell on my local market or outside of North America.

Looking to see if I’m missing something.

What a bummer.
