p.1 #1 · Help me troubleshoot the dreaded Err message on my beloved D4
I've been starting to get the "Err" code on my favorite camera, my old D4. After releasing the shutter, it has now started to almost always give me the Err message. I can still shoot after the code is up, but I can't change shutter speed or aperture without first turning the camera off and back on.
I just did some troubleshooting and realized it is doing this with every lens I have, but ONLY in A or M modes. The code doesn't come up in P or S mode. So basically, it's happening in any mode where I can use the dial to manually change the aperture.

Do you have a lens with an aperture control? Try changing the custom setting to allow setting aperture in the lens. Curious what that does. Have you tried cleaning the lens mount contacts on the body?

Sure here's my tip: Call Nikon Melville and tell them the problem. Then follow their advice to send it in. Seems to me that this repair will *not* be expensive, Ive depended on them more than several times since I switched to Nikon exclusively, beginning in 1980.

Nikon no longer repairs the D4, it was removed from repair service maybe about 3 years ago?
