I've continued to work my way though raw files from my July visits to the High Sierra near the eastern boundary of Yosemite, both inside and outside the park. The photographs come from two visits — one a front-country camping trip near Tioga Pass and the other a short backpacking trip into the 20 Lakes Basin area.
This is a set of ten new images from this body of work.
Thanks. There were two challenges to that one. First, the distant background was in very deep shadow since it faces west and the sun was rising behind that mountain. Second, the light on the little bit of shoreline, trees, and meadow was both transitory and quite intense.
I exposed for the highlights on that foreground, knowing that I’d have to do some work in post to get back the desired details in those shadows!
Also, I just numbered the photos to make it easier to reference them in comments…after seeing you refer to those one as “#7.”
Nicely seen Dan. You do a great job of composing in High Sierra landscapes. I find it challenging as there can be a lot going on in the frame. The images you posted here feel like something I would see when up there; I don't mean to say they are just snaps, but rather communicate precisely the moments we experience up there.

Cheers!
Thanks!
The feeling like something you "would see up there" is a big part of what I'm after. A photograph isn't an objective copy of what we saw, but it can evoke the subjective feelings that characterize the actual experience.
As I've mentioned before, It takes some careful photography and some (occasionally extensive, though you might not notice it) post-processing to get there!
