p.1 #1 · New Member Intro and How To Repair R-lens Shade/Cap Pin?
Greetings to the Community! I am a new member here, but my passion for photography started the summer before my 16th birthday in 1982 when I was gifted a Nikon FG and 50mm f/1.8 Series E lens. I've been a member of a watch collector forum for 15 years, and find new member introductions a polite and friendly way of "breaking the ice," though (unless I'm looking in the wrong forums), introductions don't seem to be a big part of the culture here. No worries, and apologies if intros are frowned on! Happy to answer questions for anyone curios to know more about me/gear/interests, but won't bore others any further.
I do have a question, though I promise I'm not taking the lazy way out and disappearing! I was attaching a hood (12509) to my R-lens 28mm f/2.8. The shade is new to me, but the process is easy enough to figure out. Or so I thought...
On my last attempt (and probably my fourth or fifth try overall), I was having difficulty getting the mounted shade to twist on. I'm guessing it wasn't flush, because I broke the upper pin off the lens and gave the edge a noticeable scratch. By some miracle I recovered the pin from the floor! The pin and the hole appear to be threaded, but I cannot restore it to its original configuration.
My immediate thought was Crazy Glue (or whatever the clinical term is for that glue). But I have a history of breaking or taking things apart that will "never work again." So I'm putting aside the urge to go for this solution until others (hopefully) offer their suggestions and tips for replacing the pin. Alternately, I welcome advice that may include leaving it as-is, since the gear doesn't get tossed about and both the cap and the shade remain reasonably secure when attached to the lens.
Oh, and a warning about me...I get lengthy in my posts. Here's your evidence. However, I am also very easy-going! 15 years on a watch collecting forum has taught me much. Except brevity.
Thanks in advance for advice/suggestions, even if they are "send it to DAG" (only trying to avoid the expense, but accept this may be the best or only solution). Cheers!

Welcome to FM.
Based on this first post, you have a long way to go, before most FM'ers would call you long-winded. Just sayin'.
One of your secret weapons will be, Gaffer's tape. That's always the best solution for keeping hoods in place (and etc.), while you decide on what will be the best solution. Usually, it's Gaffer's tape.

Indeed, my tool box has two items in it...a screwdriver, and Gaffer's tape. And my screwdriver is due for replacement. So many chips in the handle from driving nails.
Yeah, I'm no mechanic, though I'm pretty darn good at taking stuff apart. But the stuff will never function again.
Thank you for the suggestion! Open to more ideas too.

Jim's suggestion gets a very HIGH 2nd! I use it often and have used it for 40 years.
Comes in all sizes, colors, styles..worth every penny! But you have this covered! Sorry for the pun!
YES AND WELCOME!! Might post over on the "Gear" Forum also.
