p.1 #1 · PSA ---> big thumbs up to Canon CPS (USA) | |
I recently subscribed to CPS Platinum to clean/repair a few items that will be reaching it's EOL sooner rather than later. I went with Platinum over Gold because 1) more items can be cleaned and 2) free shipping to Canon.
It's only been a week or so, but my experience has been mostly positive thus far!
Here are some points for those considering joining up:
1) Signing up took some time/effort as their website kept giving me some error message about their service not being available at that time. It could've just been my old computer but eventually got to the payment page. So be patient if this happens to you.
2) Adding products is easy. Just add the item name, serial number, purchase date (I put a dummy date for all of em since out of warranty anyway), etc. Once I accumulated enough points for Platinum, I signed up and paid.
3) Initiating the repair/maintenance process online was also easy. Click the items from my list and the services needed, and hit Submit.
4) Here's where things got a little bit hairy. I received a bunch of different emails (e.g. confirmation for each item, FedEx shipping labels, etc.). Being unfamiliar with the process, I wasn't sure how to pack the different items (e.g. separately, all together in one box, etc.). What made things more confusing was that I received only two FedEx shipping labels for five different items, and each label had a Description box that listed only one item name (e.g. 5DSR for one label, and 1DX2 for the other label). This made me assume one item per label.
However, I assumed wrong. So here's a tip for those signing up for CPS USA.
Based on conversations with CPS over the phone and through email, they recently changed systems, so I guess they're still adjusting or making changes to how things are handled. They confirmed a max of three items can be shipped out per label (if I wanted to ship each separately, they could accommodate of course). There's a limitation for the Description field for the labels, which is why only one item was listed for each label. Also, they sent out other emails with some sort of form asking for the items I am sending in and what I needed to be done. This information seemed duplicative of what was already submitted online so I ignored these additional forms.
5) Once I got the labels sorted out and shipped, it turned out great. The turnaround time for when I dropped off the packages to when it was received back was absolutely STELLAR. I dropped it off on a Friday and started receiving items back on Monday/Tuesday of the following week. Way faster than anticipated. Also, even though it's a small expense, they even gave me a free battery cover for my 5DSR since mine went missing.
6) What's also cool was that I sent in a grey market 5D4 for repair, using my CPS account but not eligible for the Platinum benefits since it's from Canada. They still applied for the 30% repair discount, even though it wasn't eligible (I don't think).
All in all, CPS was great! Not sure if I am going to renew Platinum next year but I might be inclined to keep going with Gold.
On a related note, anyone ever utilize their other services like equipment loans, etc.? I am thinking of trying out one of the mirrorless cameras but wasn't sure logistics (e.g. how long I can keep it for, etc.).
Thanks to everyone for the previous posts about CPS, which helped me pull the trigger!
