Indeed Ross, the Z7 line remains tops for ultimate IQ in my mind in the Z lineup...I prefer my Z7ii landscape work to my Z9 work, though the Z8/Z9 is the far more flexible camera to have in the field.

A Z7iii that incorporated all the nice to haves of the Z5ii with the original Z7/Z7ii sensor would be day 1 purchase for me. I have little interest in the 61mp version of the sensor found in many other bodies these days.

Ditto, z7 with the Zf (and I assume the same for Z5ii) AF and manual focus aids features and I'm in

Yes, more than satisfied with my Z7II. Don't need fast AF for my landscape photography. I do need quality files with great dynamic range and lovely colours. And the Z7II delivers. It's also lightweight 💕

Out of curiosity, how do the Zf, Z5II or even the Z6II compare to the Z7II in terms of "robustness," for lack of a better term, of color and tonality in the files? Not so much dynamic range per se, though it may be related. It isn't something that comes up all that often, but in some kinds of images I do push the files pretty hard in tonality and color. I'm not sure how much stock to put in DXO Mark's rankings for color in their metrics, for example.

I liked the Z5II because of customization features but I thought that maybe the Zf had a slight advantage on IQ. I know they are the same sensor but I am wondering here. I liked the "painterly" aspects of the Zf, and thought that it took some of the "edge" off of the Z7II that was not a bad thing. Regardless, I missed some of the extra bite, robustness, call it what you like, of the IQ of the Z7/Z7II. Just love the ergo's of that camera along with its overall size. Totally happy now and do not feel like I am missing anything after taking some of the newer tech for a spin. Some nice features, lots of gimmicks, but the sensor on the Z7's is more than satisfying. Color, tonal quality is important. In low light the lower res sensor does not capture detail like the higher res sensor. Over time, the differences become apparent.
