I only advocate using a cell phone for photography when nothing else is at hand, and this was one of those times. A few days ago I was biking near the airport and the F-35s were doing "touch 'n goes," so I decided to pull out my phone since my camera was at home. The jets never did fly overhead, but while I was waiting, this sharp-shinned hawk flew over me. I only got one crack at it, but I kind of like the result.

That's the Iowa Hawkeye, "Herkie", brother! He is scouting out the competition for the football game October 11th!
Great timing to get the bird right against the vacant sky!
Tones superb even for a smartphone.

I still use a flip with no camera.

Thanks much, brother. I don't have much hope for the Wisconsin team this year. Maybe the middle of the pack at best. Last year they didn't even go to a bowl.

Great job with a phone.
Thanks very much, Jim. It was one of the very few times I got caught without a camera.

Not to worry brother. When I lived in Iowa and then Maryland, we called the Big 10, "The Big 3". Michigan, Michigan St and Ohio State. Dislike those 3 for all my football life.
Iowa, Wisc and Minn were always at the bottom of the Big10. So I watched My Big 3. With the recent inception of "NIL" and money being tossed around like confetti, most of the "big named schools" get the obvious talent.
It is the "hidden talent" at our schools and others that rise to the top.
Go Badgers!

I'd love to see that happen. Go Underdogs!

I still think of college football as real football. On any given day crap can happen! Pro's... things are a tad more obvious as "professional talent" becomes obvious. And yes coaching is an aspect. But major aspect?

Unfortunately, the NIL business and the transfer portal are really ruining college sports and blurring the line between them and the pros. Really good players get lured away to the few powerhouse schools by big money and the chance to play for the famous coaches while the other schools just play for the scraps. I could name six colleges and give 10 to 1 odds that one of them will be the next National Champion in football.

I guess that's one of the great things about cell phones. Nearly everyone has a camera available now.

The cell phone is the modern day Brownie... or in my case, when I was a kid - first I had a Polaroid, then I had a Kodak 110 (my brother had a Kodak disk). I always wanted to use my dad's Minolta, but that was off limits.
