p.1 #1 · Good deal on M4 Pro chip MacBook with trade-in deals
In case anyone is in the market for a 14" MacBook Pro with the M4 Pro processor, one big box retailer is doing a $600 trade-in deal plus a sale on the MacBook itself. I was able to get the full $600 trade-in value for my very road worn M1 MBP 16" with 16GB ram and 512GB HDD (slightly scratched screen, half a cup of coffee poured on the keyboard, and 3rd party power adapter mind you) towards a 14" MBP with the M4 Pro processor, 24GB RAM and though I was tempted to go larger just went with the 512GB HDD because the 1Tb SSD was $400 more!?
Total out the door including tax (I found an open box excellent condition one which knocked off an additional $100) was only $1090. I think my old MBP was worth maybe $300 if I were to try and sell it, so I consider this a pretty smoking deal. Because of the way the trade in works, it actually knocked off $660 off the purchase price because it includes a credit for sales tax.
Was just running capture one and 28 PSD files open in photoshop and the new M4 Pro chip is considerably faster. With both C1 and all those files open in photoshop, I was only at 17 GB ram usage (out of 24), and Davinci Resolve runs much better. I do kind of miss the 16” screen but the 14” is a full pound lighter and has the same pixel density and refresh rate. The faster ports on the M4 Pro chip are nice too - I don’t regret getting just a 512 GB HDD considering a 2TB ssd costs around $150 right now. $400 more for a 1 TB internal SSD is ridiculous.

Not at all. Maybe if it were the sungphoto store that could be an issue.

lol I'm still gobsmacked that BBY gave me $660 effectively for an old MBP M1 with a scratched screen, a few dents and had a half cup of coffee dumped on it. I was almost sure that when they saw the 3rd party charger, they'd tell me I wouldn't get the full trade-in, but the guy at the pickup counter didn't care.
Still really happy with the M4 MBP. Have Davinci doing some effects processing in the background, while have Capture One and Photoshop open at the same time, which would have frozen my old mac.
