p.1 #1 · Locations to visit in Indonesia

I am planning a month long trip to Indonesia in 2026 and looking for any recommendations of locations.

I am interested in landscape, not animals.

I am looking for out of the way less touristy locations.

Thanks for the help.

Always been interested, seems like a logistically heavy trip given the various islands that make up the country and far distances.
Committing a month to it you could obviously cover a lot of ground and much more than I would be able to.

Not sure any of these would be considered less touristy.

Borobudur Temple in Java
Mt. Bromo for sunrise / Java
Nearby Cermoro Lawang can look great from above with some fog
Tumpak Sewa Waterfall is not that far from here and looks great - may want a drone for that.

Ubud in Bali has nice rice terraces to photograph. Tegallalang Rice Terrace is the name of one.
Lempuyang Temple in Bali
Ulun Danu Beratan Temple in Bali
Mount Agung Volcano in Bali
Sanur Beach in Bali when the local boats are in the shallow water looks ideal - sunrise I assume

Komodo Island / National Park (think you have to fly into / stay at Flores to make that trip unless you go on a long boat journey that may not be ideal for photography

Kelingking Beach in Nusa Penida

Pantai Walakiri in Sumba - has those very cool looking trees

Those were on my short list but I have never been.

If you’ve got a month in Indonesia and want landscapes without the crowds, I’d look beyond Bali/Java. Flores (Kelimutu crater lakes), Sumba (wild beaches and savannah), and Sulawesi’s highlands (Toraja) are all stunning and way less touristy. West Java’s Ciletuh Geopark is also underrated with cliffs and waterfalls. This article might help you spot which areas are busier so you can avoid them: http:/ /https://gowithguide.com/blog/indonesia-tourism-statistics-2025-all-you-need-to-know-5383
