I used to carry the one on the left around when I was in high school (late 60's early 70's). The other one is from the early 70's. You can tell they've seen more than their fair share of use and abuse by the deep scratches.
Flicking them open had/has that certain unmistakable sound. They were also notorious for leaking lighter fluid after one would over fill them. Then you had to deal with the huge stinging welt on your thigh from the fluid burn.
I used to fill the one from high school with cologne (Brut, Hai Karate, Jade East) so every time I would light the lighter it would smell like that cologne. Thought I was just WAY too cool.......
Did you roll up your cigarette pack in your white t-shirt sleeve "LB"? ...Zippos were a sign of the times in my military service. While I never smoked, I did carry one for lighting a piece of "C4" to heat my rice and veggies when on an operation.
You also brought back some memories of "washing" my face with those "manly scents" so the girls would swoon!! Yeah right Danny!
Your subject presentations are always "top shelf" Larry!

Thanks for the atta boy Dan.
I really never did the "cigarettes in the shirt sleeve" thing. I do remember utilizing a somewhat ornate aluminum case to keep from crushing the pack while in my pocket though.
I thought C4 was a type of powerful explosive. Yikes dude! You're quite the badass.
I don't recall that the 'cologne in the lighter' trick had the type of success I anticipated it might.
Ah...to be young and stupid again. Being old and stupid hits different.

Otherwise it is just a "block of silly putty" that can produce heat fast! Pinch off a small piece and you have a heat source. Yeah it was risky due to the fumes but I was always "up wind".
Yes youth was quite the learning experience! Now I have to relive that life and realize I still "missed" some of that learning.
Again a GREAT presentation brother!

Used to have one of the mini versions with my college crest on it. They sold them in the bookstore. Back then we could smoke in the dorm and the class buildings. Even in some classes. Now you can't smoke anywhere on campus.
