In the midst of all the R5 II FW controversy I just noticed that the R5 has a new FW also released in July, 2.2.0.
Has anyone used it and are there any concerns?
I have updated the camera to the new FW but have not used the camera yet.
Updating did require entering a password. I'm led to believe that the first time one powers up the camera it will ask for the password but will also offer an option to not ask for it again from that point on. I think I saw that the R5ll is the same way.
I am hoping to get the opportunity to power up the camera and actually use it sometime this week.....fingers crossed. It's VERY hot and VERY humid in "the studio" right now so it's been difficult to get the motivation up to get out there and play.

Yes, and yes. I've turned off the PW on both and am glad I did. Just make sure you turn that option off before your camera automatically goes to sleep or you'll have to enter your PW again - !
Then is there any real value to the R5 FW update? I'm not interested in the PW deal since my cameras are locked on Airline mode for security.
The R5 II needs the new FW for AF improvement and the variable length pre-continuous mode - I'm not questioning that.

I didn't bother with this FW update or the previous one. I was hopeful they would have tossed us a bone and at least gave it the ability to select different fps in ES, but all it seems to be is the password thing, which I don't care about.
I'm looking forward to the R5III in another 3 years.

The ability to select less pre-capture frames is great for me. And the AF seems stickier. I skipped 1.0.3 and went to 1.1.1
