Ah, been over a decade since I looked through the VF of the ZM. What I remember was bright large view. I still have the cameras and you just made it easier for me to sell them. I was going to mention the Mamiya 7ii, but I’m sure that my memory isn’t any better than it was with the Ikon ZM.
I really liked the shutter action of the ZM. Very different than a film M. Film M is soft and silky, ZM has a sharp metallic crack. Both are great.
And the ZMwas way nicer than the Bessa R3a I had. That camera was just cheap and clanky feeling. Crazy thing is nowadays people are asking more money for one than an M3!
I believe starting with the M4-2 they removed the condenser lens from the rangefinder to save money thus causing the flare issue that persisted through the m7, then during m7 they upgraded and added the condenser back plus multi coated windows, the MP and onward all have this. In regard to the m2/3/4, they can be upgraded to multi coated windows, but they already had the better rangefinder with condenser lens and don’t really flare. Original M6 can be upgraded fully to the MP finder but it’s not just the windows which are really a secondary option. The condenser lens is where the main benefit is

Thanks - agreed, but I don't think that the M3 and M2 suffered from any patch flare at all in the first place. I never encountered it even once with my M3 DS in the past 10 years since I am using it. Is the MP finder als using coated window or does it just have the condenser lens to avoid the flare? Or does the MP finder maybe use both?
You’re correct, my M3/M4 does not have flare, they have coated windows I did upgrade them when I had a CLA just in case but I’m not sure it’s needed, the M3/2/4 due to age might have patch separation issues, but not flare, the MP finder added the condenser back and had multi coated windows, as an upgrade to the M6/7 you can do the condenser, but not necessarily the windows if you want, the m3/2/4 upgraded windows are MP parts that’s why they are available.
