p.1 #1 · Cinque Terre - Italy

My journey to Italy a few years ago included a memorable three-night stay in the stunning Cinque Terre region. I chose to stay in the charming village of Vernazza, using it as my home base to explore the five ancient fishing villages that make up Cinque Terre. These picturesque towns, perched high on the Italian Riviera, are connected by train, which was a blessing during my visit.

Unfortunately, my trip was plagued by a bit of bad luck with the weather. It rained on and off for most of my stay, and the popular cliffside trail from Manarola to Vernazza was closed due to heavy rain damage. The weather only started to clear up on the day I was leaving, which was a bit of a bummer. Despite the weather, I was able to capture some incredible photos of the villages and the breathtaking scenery. I was also grateful to not have to haul my luggage up the steep, narrow streets!

Here are a few images from my trip.
I usually don't shoot super long exposures but a guy shooting next me talked me into it

Thanks for viewing and welcome all CC

I actually thibk the first Vernazza shot is great, and helped by the weather! Very good compositions all.

The weather might not have been optimal, but you seemed to capture the essence of these scenes. Each shot has a different vibe, and the long exposure works really well here.

1,3, and 4 are my favorites. The depth and layers here is fantastic. Great set.

Fantastic compositions Parul! The town is so very vibrant in the sun but I liked it a tad better in cloudy weather! The colors just popped!
These are most excellent compositions Parul! In every manner visually and photographically!

Beautiful location and you captured it very nicely. I agree with others about the weather..... it definitely added mood to this set. The vantage point in first image is amazing. Hard to pick a favourite here..... nice location to spend few days. I bet food was amazing

That weather was a challenge, Parul, but I love how you pulled off that final shot, beautiful light and drama.

Thanks Frank, I was not sure as I generally don't use bulb exposure but this guy next to me talked me into it. Glad it came out OK. Or else it's a long trip back to get another shot......

The vantage point in first image is absolutely amazing. I had seen that in a post card and had to ask few folks to get to this spot. It's actually behind a small alley up some narrow steps.

Thank you, the weather definitely added some mood to the scene.

Thanks Jim, never used bulb exposure but this German photographer talked me into it and seems like it came out quite nice. Many seem to like the last one. Yes, the less than perfect weather helped.

Thanks Bill, it's an amazing little town to stay in. In fact Vernazza is known for its Pesto...... love their pesto bread. I visited during off season so there were very few tourists. In summer, I was told that its packed with people.

Thanks Dan, appreciate your detailed feedback. I am so glad that the long exposure worked with this set. I usually don't use bulb exposure but since I was trying to learn from this German photographer.... I had to give it a try.

The Vernazza shot in 1 is such a challenging composition because you are torn with trying to get space between the tower and the mountains. While dealing with the constraints of the path. I ended up precariously on a rock with my tripod as tall as it would go.

Makes me want to be back on the Italian coast.

Thanks Joel, I was really unsure of the last image as I never shoot in bulb mode. But this older German photographer talked me into it and looked like he knew what he was saying. Always open to learning.

The first image is very tough location as there is very little room. to setup. This whole area is very photo rich and I agree, the weather added to the mood.

Ross, thank you very much. Last image credit goes to this German photographer who was giving me tips and was so happy to share his knowledge. It was like a private lesson..... I always open to learning from others.

Jonathan, since you have been there you know how challenging that location is! I know exactly which rock you are talking about, I tried to get up but didn't feel to safe. I just managed to find a gap between some plants to get the rocks at the shore line. What an amazing location! That whole coastline is incredible.

Outstanding images from my beloved Cinque Terre..Bad weather was an asset here imo. These locations are frequently photographed by many.If the weather was sunny, the pictures may have looked more "post-cardish:.

These are very nice...and another vote for the longer exposures given the conditions you faced.
