I've gone back and forth with the Fuji apsc system, and the problem with the Fuji XE5 is the EVF. When you're using to a 3.6 million dot displays in the Z6ii and Z8, you really notice the downgrade using a 2.36M dot one in the Fuji. Plus the crop lenses on the Fuji aren't that much smaller than comparable full frame equivalents, and are about the same price. The Xpro series is fun, but the bodies are not compact. It always seems to lead me back to Nikon as my "goldilocks" zone of price, size, value and lenses.

Didn't realize that about the XE5 EVF. I had an A7C and that viewfinder drove me crazy coming from a Z6. I think the cost is a big issue particularly if one is thinking of building a basic system of even 'travelling' lenses - particularly if (like me) one already has the Nikon FL's and as you say you are not losing significant bulk or weight by buying into a whole new system.

The Zf could be the perfect candidate, any of you who used/uses it along with a Z6II and Z8 (which is the camera I use when I pretend to do serious stuff), feedback re size, portability, usage and especially coupled with primes, be them native or third party like the famous Voigt?

Thanks

Gio, I have the Zf and will tell you a Voigtlander on this camera is about the coolest looking setup you will ever have. Even one of my 8 year old granddaughters noted that when she first saw it. (I am using the 40 1.2, but have tried the 75 1.2 and the 50 2.0). Having said that, its somewhat bulky and would not fit with your plan for a smaller form. Like others on this thread, I see the Z5II as a good alternate and am considering this. I love the Zf but the ergonomics and controls are somewhat challenged. I miss the custom functions I had with the Z7II. I want more control over the camera than what I currently have and yes the dials are cool but they just don't work for me in the end. I do like the newer tech, especially manual focus assist, lower noise and unbelievable stabilization among other things. I have to make the determination that functionality beats looking cool. Good luck in your decision. If I get the Z5II I will report back.

p.2 #3 · Itch: Zf to substitute Z6II

Ciao,

I understand that a Zf won't be any more portable of the Z6II, honestly the reason I don't like shooting it is the size, recently I am using the D850 from time to time and I do love the firm grip, I like the Z8 as well and I know they are bulky and heavy but the D850 fits an amazing battery with huge shooting life, the Z6 is in a middle ground, not that much more compact and not as enjoyable to handle, I am happy with the quality even tho I prefer, no surprise, the Z8 AF, I don't do shooting banks, I mostly use back button AF in C-AF, all I change from time to time is from A to S, burst and ISO, exp compensation HAS to be under the thumb, I can't do without that!

The Zf is an itch, it reminds me of the F3 which I still enjoy a lot when I use it from time to time, for a while years ago I had a Fuji X-Pro1, sluggishness apart I loved it with the small but with a lot of character XF35/1.4R but the size wasn't really that compact body wise, the lens of course as it's a DX one but the body, if I compare to Z6II or to F3 isn't that compact but with a prime mounted and another one in a bag it was a good compromise, I just can't see myself with a compact not having a viewfinder or with a non removable lens.

If you get the Z5II I might chase you for your Zf ;-)

Similar situation here: I'm coming from a Sony A7 III. While the Zf's manual focus aids are a great feature and one I benefit a lot from (I have 5 MF lenses), it was mostly its look that made me want it. Ergonomics are horrible and it's a shockingly big camera. After adding a grip and an additional thumb grip, it's finally not training my grip strength anymore.

I might take up an offer....

On the other hand, the customization capabilities of the Z5 II without over emphasis on video capability or high speed actions makes this a slam dunk for me.

Received the Z5II yesterday and am overall very pleased. Identical IQ to Zf with all the controls I could ever want. Deep grip which will allow me to use the 50 1.2 lens that I am getting. I think the ergos of this camera is just lovely.....
