This was from many years ago when our Parish church was burned down by a careless roofer. The new Church was built except for the steeple.
"The history of Libertytown and the Catholic Church are much interwoven. The town, originally called Duke's Woods began in 1754. Maryland was originally established as a safe haven for Catholics.(My input- Cecilius Calvert, the 2nd Baron Baltimore made Maryland a haven for Catholics fleeing England and elsewhere.) However, in 1718, penal laws were enacted against Catholics and they were not permitted to worship in churches. Instead, they gathered and worshipped in Mass houses. In 1782, Duke's Woods was renamed Libertytown in the fervor that followed the Revolutionary War.
The first church was dedicated in 1823, and served the parish until 1871 when the second church was built. Both churches stood within what is now the footprint of our current church....There are 2 distinct steeples."
I believe every world religion has been persecuted at some point in time. Even to this very day in 2025.

Resting the Steeple without Divine Intervention BTW
Yes some
What the steeple was covering. Original bell was saved.
Dam buddy, you're on a roll lately...
That first picture had me going, thought maybe you were stoned, .
Then I saw the rest, pretty neat.
Would you believe we did something similar to that a few weeks ago and are doing another now ??
But these are patterns or molds to make the spires.
In the first I thought...what sort of wizardry is this! Coincidently, careless roofers may have burnt down the Church at Maria Stein, OH just this past Spring.

Thanks brother!
I will post the "undercarriage(mold) for the steeple. I got underneath it for a few shots before they hoisted up to place. Quite a geometric wonder on both steeples.
My shadow taking the photo in the lower right of the frame is not as pronounced in this images as I wanted.
"Don't bogart that......" Little Feat!!!!
Thanks!

Great history Dan, and great images!
Thank you jon!
The last one is crap but I wanted everyone to see how the 2 new steeples were placed onto the Church.

These images were from the local news rag...The paper "deformed "them to prevent someone from plagerizing the images.
I returned when the new Church reopened and took many photo. I will post later.
The statue was untouched by fire. The hand made 150 year old stained glass windows made in Germany were all destroyed.
Great shots here brother. The first one really had me going. The steeple looks like it's just floating in space and your shadow underneath makes it even more eerie.
Brent
Nice study. I actually really like the first - over the top contrast, but it sure isolates the subject! (but then I did notice your shadow in the corner - cool "signature".

Thanks Brent..sort of a "divine intervention" eh more a devil's advocate? :>
The sun had just popped above the tree line behind me and the steeple was lit in a "divine light".
I was able to get under it when it was being raised and the "form" is a geometric wonder!
Thanks!

Yes I do also Jim. AS stated above it was early morning and the sun had just popped over the tree line behind me and lit the brilliant white siding of the steeple up~!
The ground was extremely distracting due to all the heavy eqpt that damaged the asphalt driveway...My picture taking shadow was a plus.
Thanks!

Nice shots Dan, very contrasty keeping the whites spot on.
Glad to see you experiencing different process on your B&W's.

As the kids say today.."keepin' it fresh!" Marcelo.
My mono workflow is sort of like "driving a car on a course that has those orange "road cones" every 50 ft or so. In and out, "Over, under, sideways, down ... Backwards, forwards, square, and round...."song lyric by The Yardbirds..1966.
