p.1 #1 · Vinalhaven Island Maine

My brother and his family spend June to November at his house off the coast of Maine(Rockland) on Vinalhaven Island. Named for John Vinall 1736-1823. The first settlers were the "Red Paint people" some 3800-5000 years ago.

It was settled by English people in the 1760's following the end of the French and Indian War.

Only accessible by a ferry. It is a lobster fishing village. It is also a magnet in the summer for "downeaster's" to vacation.

It is also famous as the summer resident for Andy Warhol back in the day.

The island is easily accessible by both car or foot via the ferry from Rockland. It is well worth a day trip!

It also has one of the rarest lighthouses in Maine and the USofA..Browns Head LH. The mayor uses it as his/her resident also. Yes I have some great photos of it BUT where did I put them?

The island is beautiful! It had a granite quarry, which is now the "town swimming hole" and the water is ice cold!, and slabs of granite were shipped to Washington, DC, NYC and other cities across America from the mid 1800's. The US Post Office in Washington, DC was built with Vinalhaven granite.

These images are from a Canon AE-1 many years ago.
Dan

ADDENDUM: I know these will not be to everyones liking. That is fine. Your comments, good or bad, are welcomed! I processed them with the intention of more a "painterly" approach versus a nice crisp sharp image. Plus I was using a film camera and I believe Kodak 64? Not sure..I will check the negatives.

Beautiful my friend Dan-
I LOVE boats and want everyone I see, even all the fixers uppers.
In my second life, I lived on the water or right next to it and love it dearly.

How do you feel about the look of these Dan?
Always curious how people look at old film images from decades ago, and feel about them, given everything we have and do now, post processing, pixel peeping and all.

Thanks "Mich"! Coincidentaly to your post, I added an addendum to my post about how I wanted these images to look. Truthfully they were VERY noisy at that time of day.
I smoothed them out and that may not be to everyone's liking. That is fine! I appreciate every one's opinion, good or bad.

No they were not very sharp. It was sunset and I was loosing light fast...

I wanted a more "painterly" look to them "Mich". I am going to convert them to mono also for a more era-esque look.
Thanks again!
Dan
