I think Tony did a nice job on the rework. Very judicious, yet meaningful adjustments to tonal values and the mild crop shifts the mass of the duck / ripples relationship.
Each of those edits provides a shift in that relationship that work well together. Depending on one's desired goals of duck / ripples vs. ripples / duck they might differ on how to balance that relationship.
Again, I think Tony presented the rework, well. To which, his extensive body of work in this aquatic fowl genre ... yeah, he probably has a better feel for it than most of us might.
