Whether you are for or against it as it relates to both still photography and video matters not to me.
The most amazing thing I got from watching this program was the transformation from the original film to the resulting size and quality of the AI results.
Wizard of Oz was fine as it was with basic restorations. Fake resolution by AI does not make a better film. It's like that colorized Turner classic movies.

I haven't seen the Wizard of Oz since I was a kid, but this looks amazing! I'm honestly thinking that could be a quick weekend trip with the kids.

Your opinion about a newer version you have not even seen or experienced. I am sure millions that have seen the original will disagree.
Dismissing AI now days it is like dismissing internal combustion engine in 1902. It is here we like it or not and it is already changing everything it touches especially easy stuff, like photography. Personally, I'm glad I would not see how it is all ends, or I hope I would not see...
AI is not really the issue. To me it's about derivative art whether obtained by AI or other means.
I suppose they could upres Amstel Adams prints 16x and super-colorize them, and that would be just awesome.
The Mona Lisa is too small, so maybe AI could fix that also.
Ansel Adams was manipulating his prints in the darkroom.
Touch-up artists were hand-coloring B&W prints before color prints came out.
Touch-up artists were airbrushing prints of Playboy models.
Filters were used to apply different effects.
Retouchers made $700hr plus their monthly $$$ in the 70s and 80s.
Any photo you have ever taken has some distortion of reality. 3-dimensional to 2-dimensional for a start.
Where I see AI has a benefit in my limited PP work in PS:
+ Content Aware tool - the brush marker has become very good removing spots and small areas (or adding ones when merging photos to fill gaps).
+ For pano photos merging multiple photos - the transition between frames is very good, too.
This is about the max. amount I am using AI for PP purposes.

Could then fit more people in that room in the Louvre... win-win
Thanks for posting the link. I have no plans to visit Las Vegas (ever again ... ) but would certainly queue to see it if released in more conventional venues.
As for AI, bring it on. Let's face it, the Mona Lisa IS pretty small! I'm confident Leonardo would happily up-res his painting if he could get his hands on the technology -- although in what way and to what size etc. I defer to his inimitable genius to determine.
