My gf and avid Holga photographer Dr G asked me to post this to support her sister Hanna:
I want to give a shoutout to my brilliant sister Hanna, who is in the process of making a documentary film. This project is very close to her heart and one that she has been tirelessly researching over the past three years.
A very important aspect of her research focuses on the Cahuilla, Serrano, Gabrielino/Tongva, Chemehuevi, Cupeņo, and Luiseņo peoples, who have long stewarded the land now known as Riverside and the greater Inland Empire. For centuries, they maintained a deep relationship with this land. They were essential players in the development of the Riverside citrus industry.
Despite the oppression they faced, these peoples demonstrated immense resilience; and in the citrus groves, they spoke their native languages and kept cultural traditions alive. This heritage, which honors identity and spirituality, continues to be preserved. And these tribes are still here, caring for the land, being part of it, and preserving it for future generations.
Please check the link below to learn more about this compelling story and to read more about her research which focuses on the history of the navel orange - the "Other California Gold".
