As my late mother would say, "if you have nothing nice to say then say nothing", but I do also have to sympathize with the OP because the pinned RX1R3 thread is turning into a bit of a nauseating fanboy-fest for a camera that is, by all objective measurements, stupidly overpriced.
If subjectively you think it's worth your $5K (plus tax) and have that money burning a hole in your proverbial pocket then by all means have at it and use whatever price justification you can come up with. Personally, even if I had $5K I needed to unload quickly I would not buy this camera because I object to being ripped off and would rather not encourage Sony to price things stupidly high. Not that my lone protest would make a jot of difference to a massive global corporation, but it's nice to think I have a few principles left ...Show more →
Everyone’s view of value is different. I personally chuckle at the people that pay a premium for Leica gear…yet there are many who enjoy their Leicas no matter the price. I think your view of calling the other thread nauseating because some people see value in the new rx1r3 is a bit over the top and stinks of jealousy.

Everyone has to make their own judgement. It's always been that way and will always be that way.
Most of the threads for new equipment are people, who have the right to feel the way they do, trying to convince everyone to feel they way they do. Or the way they look at something is the right way to look at it.
Even I get caught up in it, I guess it's human nature. When someone has made up their mind that they are not interested, and they've said their piece, it might be time to move along. You think you like it, great. You think you don't, great.
Maybe we create a hate thread, and a love thread....and everyone swims in their lane. Maybe a third "meh" don't really know bucket would be needed in that case.
We already have at least 3 I think, least time I checked.

Not jealous at all because I would never need, let alone buy, an R1X. I already spend far too much on other Sony gear But your comment just confirms what I said -- it's a purely subjective decision whether someone buys it or not. It's hard, however, to dispute that objectively it's extremely overpriced. And, yes, I also consider a lot of Leica gear to be objectively overpriced (despite the extremely high quality of much of it) but, again, buying into the Leica ecosystem is a subjective decision for people. The ultimate "nice to have" cameras of the 21st Century.
Sure, "nauseating" might be a bit strong, but while you chuckle at people paying a premium for Leica I chuckle at people and their justifications for spending $5K on what is essentially a fancy point-and-shoot like the RX1r3. TBH I can actually fathom spending $10K on an M11 more than I can fathom buying an RX1r3 because there's a long heritage and unique design to the Leica that people are buying into (potentially to brag about, but still). Each to their own indeed.

The "you're just jealous" argument didn't hold water at age 10, so why would it hold now? I just bought an A1ii, 50-150 f2, and laowa 8-15 fisheye in the last 2 months, after buying the 28-70 f2. All just for fun. Money is of no issue to me.
I looked at the rx3 and laughed. The price just makes it even more laughable, mainly because of how blatant and shameless they are being.

this hasnt been mentioned at all yet. so i borrowed a friends a7r5 a few weeks back for some testing and after re-viewing some images today i noticed that there was shutter shock in the images i took at 1/50sec. well if the CR is the same then the leaf shutter will produce razer sharp images just like my a6700 did at 1/50 sec, the question is , does the CR suffer the same shutter shock as the a7r5.

The first reply in that thread is negative. There are more negatives on the first page than positive.

Not that I'm bothered enough to spend the time to check the whole thread, but I will say you are wrong.
I have been reading and did not miss the fact there are many negative posts. It seems you did.
"nauseating fanboy-fest" is just wrong.
"stupidly overpriced" I can't state as fact that it's wrong. I can add a fact though: RX1RII maintained it's release price at BnH for 10 years. That never happens with other Sony bodies.
In Australia, RX1RIII price is already cheaper than in the US and I think more likely it will continue to drop.
I doubt the price will drop in the US. We'll see.You get what I'm saying, right?

I think it'd be more relevant to go from the most recent page and then backwards.

I love data! Yeah, I guess I got turned off too quickly in that thread. As for price, it's always a case of "let the market decide" and if supply is limited and demand matches or exceeds it then the price will be maintained. For a camera that uses "recycled existing parts" (to paraphrase one reviewer) it really is objectively overpriced -- just listing the specs had me scratching my head as to how Sony came up with that price, although I'm sure it was inflated a bit by tariffs. Ultimately people will pay what people will pay and there are customers for everything out there, especially for products with manufactured scarcity riding on pre-existing cult-like status, which is potentially a category the RX1 series falls into (I would love to know sales figures for the RX1r3 though).
And stop rubbing in the fact that Australia is now the cheapest place to buy Sony gear
p.2 #11 · The Sony RX1R MkIII: it’s a bit late for April Fools Day
As an RX1RII fanboy it's just hard to believe Sony basically had 10 years to develop the III and this is what they came up with. They could have just updated the AF with the new AI stuff and left everything else the same. I would have been happy to spend 35-3700. But to remove the tilt screen and then bump the price to 5100. Just can't understand that logic. The cost is not the issue on it's own. There is so much they could have done with this camera to make it worth 5-6 thousand. The most disappointing part is they chose to do nothing basically except raise the price. As much as I'd still love to buy one i refuse on principal just because I don't want to reward their laziness.
