The sky is falling the sky is falling. So far no issues with this new firmware and they've added a few interesting things. The mode to shoot through fences is interesting.
This hawk wanted to take a bath in the watering hole I built for my deer, bobcats and coyotes. The camera focuses very well thru the fence now, and even without it.

I find "through the fence" shots to be very hit and miss on 1.0.2 and 1.0.3. When it works, it's bang on. And when it doesn't, it's super frustrating. My guess is that performance is influenced by some combination of type of fence (thickness of the wire, etc.) and variance between distance from camera to fence, and from fence to subject. I've definitely had both extremes, where I thought the R5ii just acted like the fence didn't exist, and ones where it only focused on the fence and nearly refused to focus past it (until I overrode with manual AF). Hoping the new FW update just ups the "hit rate" of the former.
I'm just waiting for my knee to heal to go out and shoot some birds again soon. So far the 1.1.0 firmware I downloaded from the Hong Kong site has had NO issues in any regard to the way I shoot. I'm NOT a video shooter and don't use a huge card. Just a 512gb Anglebird which is working just fine. The focus seems to be exactly the same as it was before. Fault free in all kinds of light. I'm sure a 1.1.1 will be released in the next several weeks so not getting my undies in a bunch like so many. There certainly was a boatload of things fixed in this new firmware as it is so that's not a bad thing.
I had downloaded the 1.1.0 firmware, installed it and have taken a couple of hundred photos. Notice that once the AF locks on, it's more sticker through fences (I am shooting birds and bugs that are on plants behind a fence). I have had no issues so far.
