p.1 #1 · Profoto Connect Pro global shutter firmware update?
What is Profoto taking so long to release the Connect Pro global shutter firmware update? You would think it should be priority! Does anyone know if they are going to release it this year?

Think about how many mirrorless camera models have a global shutter. I doubt Profoto will develop a Connect Pro for global shutter cameras until there is more of an established market.

The Pro-D3, Pro-B3, B20, B30 or D30 are already compatible in freeze mode but for now they can only be triggered by the Profoto A10 flash, for which they have released a global shutter firmware update a couple of months ago. Why not updating the remote instead of a flash though?

How do these firmwares actually work to defy the physics of the xenon flash tube? If you cut the tail of the flash you're going to get some sort of color shift. Seems like the best light for global shutter at higher power that is affordable is going to be the Buff Einstein, which has a shorter flash duration than anything Profoto currently offers, even in color mode. Just look at the duration on the LCD and set your shutter speed within that.

For the record, the Profoto D2 has a short flash duration - 1/63,000th of a second.
As I stated earlier, Profoto probably won’t invest a ton of global shutter research until their market extends beyond a single camera. When Nikon and Canon come out with global shutter cameras, Profoto will either produce new triggers or possibly firmware, but I would bet on whole new triggers and possibly new light models for the emerging global shutter market.

If color accuracy is critical, neither the fast flash duration at the lowest power settings (where color deviation is typically greatest) nor the truncated flash curve caused by a global shutter at high shutter speeds would be adequate. While I would love to have a GS-ready trigger, it’s not a hinder for any strobe use for me.
