p.1 #1 · Accurate Step-by-step procedure for creating and modifying custom film recipes

I’ve been trying to create several custom film recipes for a X-T5 and struggling since I have not found an up-to-date procedure that works with the latest firmware 4.21 version. I’ve only found older and apparently out dated documentation.
Does anyone know of one that has proven to work for you? If so can you please share a link to it here?

Thank you.

I don’t use them. That said on the XH2, I can save jpeg adjustments under a specific Cx menu and it sticks. There are 7 of them — I use them differently, with specific camera settings for specific shooting situations.

On the X-T5 you have 7 custom banks as well.

You can edit them under menu -> I.Q. —> page 3 edit/save custom settings
On page 4 is an option to disable auto update of custom settings. Mine is disabled since I do not want the settings to change once they are saved to a bank.

The quickest way to change between your custom settings is the q button and by default the rear wheel will cycle through them when the first square in the upper left corner is selected. You have to have at least 1 custom saved setting.

Using the X raw studio is another way to set the custom banks if you do not want to do it all in the camera menus.

Set your first bank how you want it save it then copy your first bank to the second and make your changes and save them to the second bank rinse and repeat.

Naming your custom banks to your film sim if that is what you are changing can help. I use my custom banks more for the subject I am shooting then for film sims.

Thanks so far but admit my experience is still missing some things or firmware has changed in the X-T5 since these articles or videos have been published.

For instance getting a Red Dot on changed parameters. I wasn’t getting a dot to show up. Thought I had tracked that down to making “Auto Update Custom Setting” on page 4/4 of the IQ menu to Disable but that did not turn the Red Dot for changes. Neither does it enable “Save The Changes” or “Reset The Changes” when wanting “Edit/Save Custom Setting” to function.

Is there an up to date manual that covers firmware 4.21 firmware?

I have a Fuji 100sii and am overwhelmed to the point of frustration at all the "bells and whistles" to choose from and all the menu settings that influence the settings I want.

I have NOT set up any custom Fn dials yet.

As a new user to Fuji, all I want is Av mode, ISO, ss, and exposure comp.

Fuji does provide a free 30 minute "zoom" session for new camera users. I plan on doing this at some point but I mention this to you only as information that might help. Give them a call..all they can say is no.

Fuji's support seems very fast and very informative. The YouTube videos are fine but never deal with my needs.
Good luck. I feel your frustration!
Dan

In the shooting mode, A, S, M or P that you want to ultimately save, make all your respective adjustments including the aperture or SS you want defaulted to when you activate that CX. Now save it as C1, 2, 3 etc AND you can give it a custom name at the same time. Next, there is a menu option to “automatically update Custom settings.” If you turn this on, anytime you’re in that CF, any setting you change will stick. For example if you originally saved it as AF-S and changed to AF-C while in that CF, the AF-C will automatically set as the new default inside that CF. Same with all other internal color, drive, format and capture settings. Some folks do not want those changes to stick, so leave this option turned off. Hope this helps.

Thank you but now I’m confused even more than ever. When I try to SAVE SETTINGS in EDIT/SAVE CUSTOM SETTINGS menu it’s grayed out and not active. I read that was because AUTOMATICALLY UPDATE CUSTOM SETTINGS was ENABLED. So I DISABLED it. I want to setup at least 3 or 4 Film simulations with names but it’s not clear the Exact steps needed to accomplish this. Also I keep reading a bout a “red dot” that should indicate a change before it’s saved and I never get that dot at any time, why is that? Seems like there is no clear path unless I completely reset and clear the camera and start from scratch. And I haven’t found a tutorial that actually I can reproduce.

I have to admit I’m coming from a Sony, Canon, and Nikon background and to my simple mind they don’t have this problem,
Got to resolve this with some clear written documentation to is fully reproducible. For instance what steps are needed to make my camera show the “red dot” when something is changed but not saved yet?

Or exactly the position of every dial to enable programming.
