Canon EOS EF remains my primary macro system, after being my primary system, overall, until 2018. I have a "team" of 5D Mark IV, 5Ds R, 7D Mark II cameras, plus some older EF cameras for nostalgia/loaners. I did sell an EF 300mm f/2.8L IS, a few months ago, and may sell an EF 100-400L II IS, as part of old man down-sizing, because I shifted to Nikon for birds and wildlife, due to my wife being a dedicated Nikon shooter. I plan to keep my EF lenses, up to and including the 135mm L and 180mm Macro L.
My widest EF lens is a 14mm L II. it replaced my EF-S 10-22mm lens, after it self-disassembled, after severn years of heavy use on 7D and 7D and 7D Mark II cameras.
I have the non-L 24mm IS, 28mm IS, and 35mm IS. All excellent! gettin' old; when I use a 50MP 5Ds R, hand-held, I need the Image Stabilization. Plus IS is helpful, when dabbling with video.
My one EF zoom is the original 24-105mm f/4L, my old workhorse standard zoom, for evidentiary/forensic/crime scene photography, with 7D and 7D II cameras. 24mm is not very wide, on APS-C, but one does not use ultra-wide angles, for crime scene photography. Unlike real estate photography, one must not make spaces look more spacious, and, key-stoning must be avoided. I kept this zoom at 28mm and longer.
I have the 35/1.4L II. Not sure, yet, whether it goes, or stays, during the down-sizing.
I have a pair of the EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS. Two? Yes. Failure was not an option, while on duty. I could use a 77mm Canon Macro Diopter lens, screwed into the filter threads of my 24-105L, but, it was best practice to have two of the real thing, especially when Canon USA sponsored a serious price mark-down. Today, it is still convenient to have one 100mm Macro L on an APS-C 7D II, and another on a 5D Mark IV or 5Ds R
