My M11M goes in the bag, but my other cameras must stay under the umbrella and go in the bag when the rain goes horizontal. What water sealed small camera has a flexible range of water sealed lenses and produce great files?

Take a look at what OM (formerly Olympus) has to offer. Cameras and numerous lenses are weather-sealed.

My Leicas do not go out in deluges... I just can't bring myself to do that though the Q series is pretty well sealed.

OM System has the best sealing in the business. My OM-1 has been in serious downpours with no ill effects. All of the PRO lenses are sealed. The OM-3 is even smaller than the OM-1, and weather sealed, but is not as ergonomic.

One thing to keep in mind is that if it is that wet… your lens is likely to be so covered in drops that it will affect the photos. (In some cases, that might be an interesting effect, but…)

:-)

I met a guy that dunked his OM1 in a river to wash it.
I own an OM1 and I've had it out in rain all day and no issues other than water drops on the lens, hence a good cleaning cloth in my pocket..

But, I don't have the courage to dunk mine!!!

The one that is inside of a trashbag, with a rubber band around the bayonet. The water ingress is much more likely to be through the lens than the body, particularly for telescoping lenses.

Did you actually see him do this?

Agree.

As I mentioned above, a problem with shooting in heavy rain is that even if your camera can survive the damp, a lens covered in water droplets creates some issues.

I usually work from the tripod in wet conditions since I’m most likely to be doing landscape photography then. I’ve used an umbrella or a had to keep the lens and camera relatively covered.

I recently came across the gizmo that cinematographers use to shoot watery scenes - a spinning clear filter

I don't shoot near water nearly enough to justify the expense or the bulk, but was surprised that I had not heard about it before. An umbrella as mentioned by Dan is a far more viable solution. Incidentally I just bought a hiking umbrella because I hike in the desert a lot. If someone see a scruffy bearded Korean lady with a silver umbrella in the middle of the Kofa wilderness stop by and say hi

Why didn't you ask in the more appropriate forum?

I think that the OP has left the building.

I now realize that his/her post is from three months ago, and the OP never returned after that.

Are we talking about a Biblical deluge, monsoon-level or just your average Texas toad strangler?

No still around. Olympus is what one of my friends swears by. Funny, when I first posted this topic, I was shotting pretty much exclusively, digital, and recently I’ve been shooting film, but even there I don’t really have a great camera for the water. Perhaps my RTSIII would be a bit better than some others, but I think not.

Evidently, talking with the 2 dealers I always use, the OM system is gaining popularity. One of the factors is the new 50-200 f2.8 lens and another is likely an evolution in perspective - you don't have to have 60 MP sensors to get good images. I'm a devout Leica fan, but also a devout OM fan. I'd be happy on a desert island with either.

Anecdotally I've used my old A77II with a 70-400G lens(telescopic zoom, non-internal) in pouring rain at a car race before without issue, and also my current A7IV with a 40G doing street photos. For whatever weather resistant rating the Sony cameras have they seem to do ok without trouble.
