p.1 #1 · Viltrox lenses for Nikon z30? (They are having a sale!)

I just bought a Nikon z30 for my nephew and it's going to be here on Monday, comes with the kit lens. I've been checking out some videos today and the Viltrox lenses seem great for it.

I was wondering if any of you out there have used them? I was thinking of getting the 56mm for my nephew and I saw it comes in f1.4 and f1.7 . I wanted to see if any of you have used it for photo and video and what you thought of them. My nephew wants photos to be #1 but he also wants to take some videos as well.

I was planning on getting a wide angle but not sure if he would need that.. but I'm also in a rush to figure this out cause Viltrox is having their sale and it ends tomorrow. Any feedback is appreciated!

I’ve not used the 56s, it from what I’ve seen while researching them, the 1.7 is sharper and more well corrected while the 56/1.4 is a little older design and has a more classic rendering, though I’ve still heard it does pretty well.

I have the 25/1.7 for my Z30 and Z50II, and it’s fantastically sharp and has a very nice rendering.

Yeah I'm just seeing that now. The one thing I'm reading is that the f1.7 has really slow autofocus, so that may be the deal breaker if the f1.4 af is much faster. So far the only video I could find with realtime autofocus testing was someone who was using it in the wrong shooting mode on a Fuji camera so that wasn't much help.

How is the autofocus speed with the 25 for photo and video(if you've tried it for that)? I'm thinking the 25 + 56 would be ideal, although I should check out the 35 & 40 as well since I just saw that. I'm totally new to the world of Nikon & Viltrox so not sure what lenses they have are much better, etc.

I have the 56mm f1.4 for Fuji X. It’s okay, but based on the reviews I’ve seen, I’d suggest getting the f1.7 instead.
Wouldn’t worry too much about AF speed, I think they’re both just fine (or „reasonably fast“ as the Opticallimits review states)

That’s how I’d describe the 25/1.7’s AF. It’s fine. It’s quiet and has reasonable speed. Generally quite accurate, but won’t blow the doors off anyone. For the price it’s an excellent lens.

Hmm maybe I should just wait until he uses the camera and see what focal lengths he likes. I also need to search for pancake lenses that are available too. It sucks I'll miss out on the sale but maybe I should take a bit more time and look at all the available lenses and see what focal lengths my nephew likes.

Have any of you used the Nikon Nikkor Z lenses? Those seem pretty nice and small. I just checked out the review on the 40mm and the image quality seemed to look a bit better than the Viltrox at a quick glance.

I didn't get the Viltrox. I ended up buying the Nikon 40mm f2 lens and wanted to see if that's enough for my nephew. I gave him the camera yesterday and he liked it the more he kept using it. I think he did want a camera like the Sony ZV-1 mainly due to its simplicity. A camera like the z30 can seem like an overcomplicating thing to learn but I showed him that for now it has an auto mode for him to use and the other stuff he can learn once he wants to do more.

He loved the 16-55mm lens a lot and doesn't like primes (which I kinda thought would happen). He loves the camera now but it wasn't charging with 2 of his wall chargers so I need to check out whats going on.

I did test out the camera and I loved it. I put up my sigma lenses for sale and looking to maybe get the 50z ii.

So yea by the looks of it I don't think he will be needing another Nikon or Viltrox lens, unless he gets into video a lot and theres a Viltrox lens thats incredible for quick & accurate autofocusing. But we still have to test the camera and lens out for another month, see how they perform. It seems super quick but I am noticing that the Nikon does miss focus a bit more than I thought.
