Yeah she doesn't mind if I need to use two hands. My Fuji X-E had buttons left of the display; so okay with me. Can't say why, but the CP A doesn't lure me like the GR & X2 to do. But, like the GR I do like that it looks front jean pocketable.

Would $700(locally) be a reasonable price for a GRii? That feels a bit inflated to me, but seeing it at used camera sites have for $1000-1100 has me thinking maybe? 🤷

Youtube reminded me that the GR has the accessories(1st & 3rd party) advantage.

It should definitely be something that excites you. The problem with Leica is there is no such thing as an inexpensive Leica digital camera. Even X2s that are showing their age in performance still have asking prices near or over a grand. The GRs can be found for less, but the camera is so popular at this point, like the Fuji X-100 line, that any of them are fetching higher prices than feels totally reasonable.

With the local deal, at least you'll be able to check functionality before putting your money down. That sounds best to me.

From a rational point of view a Ricoh GR III (or II) probably makes the most sense. It is a current camera and if you like it you can always upgrade to a newer model in the future. It is not a dead end.

That being said, if you are truly curious about Leica the X2 is probably one of the cheapest ways to get into the brand and to get a feel for what it is all about. As above-mentioned you can always sell it with no or minimal loss if you don't like it.

I wouldn't overthink this. Go with your gut feel and adjust if needed.

As much as I want the Leica, I'm starting to lean towards the GR partially because it has more of a community(& accessories). That & I doubt I will find the X2 at the price MPB had one at(under $750 last week) for a good while. I do like 40mm, but maybe 28mm is the better choice as an EDC. Been a while since i had a 28mm prime. Two of my favorite shots were taken on both those focal lengths(14mm Panasonic f2.8 & Fuji 27mm f2.8). 🤔

Having owned and used both, I’d go with the GR3x. Much more a spontaneous camera to use. The X2 sensor and lens combo is incredibly nice, but the Ricoh is no slouch. Sharp in a nice way, great colors, very compact, autofocus is very good (but certainly not trend setting. The X2 AF is glacial in comparison). I personally prefer the GR3x as I love the 40mm equivalent field of view. I found the GR3 (28e) just too wide in many cases.

No real preference over time - you just get used to how things work (or you don't and get rid of the camera!). There were several things on the Ricoh that I just never used, like the snap focus. I tried 'em out, and they are great, but not a feature that I would use often, if at all. For others, of course, that is the reason to own the camera.
The Leica is simple to use, but it is of another generation, and there were fewer features back then.

Thank you. I guess now comes the patients game. I do see mpb has a GR i for $650, but one guide I saw(made in like November) said GR i can be had for around $535. I wonder once more is known about the GR iv, what it would do to prices

I have several compact cameras including an X1, X2, X-Vario, GR III, Coolpix A and a few others. To be sure, the GR III is the most technically capable camera - fastest and best autofocus and the most compact (Coolpix A is close). Best color for my taste is the X1 or Coolpix A. Both of those offer rich, saturated colors if you like that. But if I had to live with one every day it would be the GR III.

Another honorable mention to the almost forgotten Sony RX1 series if you can find one for a good price.

I think the good news they're all good. Of note, Getty images used to limit images submitted to an approved list of cameras. The X1 was the only compact camera allowed for a long time and they would require EXIF data to prove it.

I saw that the RX1 could be had for a solid price, but I didn't bond with Sony cameras when I tried it. I do like that it's a fast f2 lens though, something I wish to see in a smaller than x100 APS-C camera.

How does the X1 & X2's colors compare?

If buying used, make sure you're buying an APS-C GR and not the earlier GR Digital series. The easiest way to check is the earlier series said "Digital" underneath the GR on the front bottom right of the camera.

I think GR3 prices are going down. They seem to be listed for sale longer as potential buyers know the GR4 is coming out.

Oh of course I'm making sure it's not the GR digital with the sensor size closer to 2/3". Some of those are still priced a bit high imho at 450-500 used online.

In my opinion, the X1 has slightly better colors than the X2, but not enough to matter. The colors almost look like CCD colors even though it has a CMOS sensor. The X2 does have a meaningful increase in resolution and it does have better autofocus.

The faster AF is why the X2 is on my list. Reviews say the X1 has like 1/3 of a second lag to take the shot after hitting the shutter, which could mean missing the shot. Not sure how accurate/common. But, at this point, I'm leaning GR as I can find or closer to budget than the X2 & it's even smaller.

I have used Leica X1, Ricoh GRX with A12/18mm lens and A12/33mm lens modules, and Sony RX1. With regard to X1's shutter lag, I don't really notice that and I have not encountered many situations that I missed shots or focus. The focus is slow but pretty accurate for what it is. As mentioned above by @crf59, X1 has very nice colors - almost CCD colors of Leica M9 and S2 that I am familiar with. The Ricoh is also very nice, a bit less saturated color. Personally, my most used P&S is my Sony RX1.

RX1 would be a great option thanks to a big sensor with the F2, but the Ricoh GR & Leica X have that something that lures me.

I've heard with the Leica X2 once af shows green one can trust it being close to 100% accurate. I have ot assume the X1 is the same, just a little slower.

Other than always bagging the GR cameras, how do you deal with dust? What options are available once your sensor has dust?

I'm told with the GR3 there is an option to use ibis to shake the dust out. But, in my search I saw a video where the person said there is a way to suck the dust out with a vacuum. Not sure how true that is.

Person selling the GR ii isn't responding & not mostly seeing GR i at close to that price, while reading posts that folks bought a GR i for $350-$400 2 years ago. 🙃

Anyone here own a PanaLeica LX100/D-Lux & the GR? How would you compare the size in person? (Compared it on camera size, but wondering about how it is in person.

You can take precautions like covering the mic and speaker holes, but eventually all fixed-lens cameras get some dust on the sensor. There's a dust-shake feature built in, though it's unclear to me how effective it really is.

In my experience, the GR I and II haven't been that cheap in years. It's like hoping to find a $1100 Leica M6 in 2025.
