p.1 #1 · a1 seems 'stuck' with max shutter of 0.5" and no clue how to fix it
This started a few days ago. I noticed in my Preset 1 that the ISO and exposure both had a white border around them. Also my slowest shutter speed was set to 0.5".
I went out to shoot fireworks and tried everything including switching to M but again had a border around ISO and now around the shutter speed not being able to go any slower than 0.5"
Luckily I had my a7r3 in the bag and switched to that but I cannot figure out how I ended up in this situation and how it persists across various dial settings including Preset 1, 2, 3, M, A etc
Other dials at L for frame rate and 0 for EV compensation.

I think this is a hint...
The slowest shutter speed available on the Sony a1, when using the electronic shutter, is 30 seconds. This is for single shooting modes. In continuous shooting mode, the slowest shutter speed is also 30 seconds, but with a limitation of 0.5 seconds if the ISO is set to auto, according to the Sony help guide.

Hope that helps,

Thank you!
That was indeed the answer.
I must have save preset 1 as electronic shutter after updating the a1 and having to redo all of my settings.

Yup, set to single frame on top dial, mech shutter, iso-100 and after 30sec the next shutter selection is bulb. 30 sec exposure for fireworks is probably too much so the need for mech shutter might not be necessary.
