A few decades ago, when my daughter was a small kid, on our vacation travels I would try to fit in a little landscape photography while she would run around and explore. I developed a theme, in which I would try to capture a large landscape with her (and sometimes her cousins) as small unaware figures in the immense landscape. I called the series “Small Kids Big World.” They were always grab shots, never posed, and they are many of my favorite photos I ever got. Being grab shots, they aren’t the best landscapes objectively speaking, but I still return to them over my best pure landscapes.
I managed to get one a couple weeks ago, even though the offspring is now mid-20’s. Along the Oregon coast, doing a beach sprint during a road trip rest stop. The second one is from 20 years ago, along the Athabasca river on a trip up to Jasper, with her toy stuffed moose. What a difference 20 years makes! I only had a few seconds to frame either shot
(A black and white version is over on the B&W forum.)

It’s wonderful that you have captured those fleeting moments over the years , creating a meaningful series that reflects the passage of time and growth of your daughter
