Does the memorial represent three planes separating in flight, leaving behind contrails in salute? I believe that is done in real life.

I also like the headstone!

Yes!
"The United States Air Force Memorial in Arlington, Virginia, uses a design of three stainless steel spires to evoke the "bomb burst" maneuver performed by the Air Force Thunderbirds and the "missing man" formation used in aerial tributes. The spires, which soar to 270 feet, are meant to symbolize the spirit of flight and the Air Force's mastery of the sky"

There is a nice memorial at Mr Henson's resting place to memorialize him and his explorartions. IT was also the only good place for the "shot" and it was under a nice tree for shade on a brutally hot( 105F) day!
Thnaks jon!

Thanks for sharing - I used to work at the Navy Annex back in the day.

It appears that they are finally moving forward with the southern expansion of ANC:

"The Air Force Memorial will be closed from June 15 to July 26, 2025 due to major construction related to the Arlington National Cemetery Southern Expansion Project. There will be no access to the site as the main entrance will be blocked. The closure includes Independence Day, meaning there will not be access to view fireworks from this location. Ceremonies and visits are not permitted at the active construction site during this time.

The finalized project will expand burial space for the cemetery and lead to a visitor increase to the Air Force Memorial."

Thank You Shawn!
Arlington NC is my 2nd home. Many people I grew up with and fought with rest here. ANC is running out of room. The "Southern Expansion" will provide approx 80,000 new resting plots.

My running joke is that perhaps I'll one day be buried right over my old office.

I'm not so sure with the new eligibility changes though?

I used to coordinate the "Wreaths Across America" holiday ceremony but with the new "Southern expansion" in progress, logistics are becoming a nightmare! I am refraining this year...
Just entering the cemetery, if not a "visitor on foot", is a "charlie foxtrot" of an experience!!
