1) Dig up sand crab at water's edge

2) Transport catch about 100 feet to chick

3) Feed chick, then repeat every 20 minutes for a month or so

It’s disgusting just how much garbage is strewn about on Nickerson beach: off the sides of the boardwalk to the beach, captured in the fences, in the dunes and in the bird nesting areas. I’ve been along the south shore beaches from east of Nickerson to Montauk and have never seen anything like it.

The adults eat them all day. It seems to be there faverate food and there is an abundant supply

Of the many chicks born at Nickerson Beach each year, they are the first born and the last to fly out with there parents

The last I was there about 3 weeks ago, the beach was immaculate. It's usually well maintained. If that has changed it's a shame.
