The local weather has not been kind to kayakers
The decreased bird population is especially noticeable this year. May be it is the heat. Maybe changes in migratory patterns. Unfortunately, maybe just fewer birds.

Cold, and rain, then extreme heat with bad air. Not fun.
I've noticed a large drop in a few types of birds: Wood Ducks and Terns. The rest seems normal here in NYC and Long Island. We have the usual number of black skimmers and an increase in American Oystercatchers.
I'm thinking the bird flew has devastated some populations. The recovery of the American Oystercatchers is a joy to see.
