I’m still using my original 17-28 that I bought on release. Hard to believe it’s been 6 years. Great lens, and this looks like it has some nice improvements.

It’s more comparable to the 16-25/2.8 imo
The big question is whether ibis / dynamic active works or not
Maybe, but I already have a 14-24 (kinda short compared to 35) /2.8DN and I also tried the new Samyang, which didn't convince me. And the new Tamron should still be quite a bit cheaper than 16-25G.
I'm looking for a wide zoom for run&gun kinda shooting now, not static stuff like landscapes, etc.
But that missing 5mm on the long end might be noticeable indeed.

I think we live in some a prime photography error. Sigma/Tamron (others) have really pulled off the lenses for us. Before 3rd party lenses were terrible. (Sony letting them do this helped in my understanding).
Now we are just spoiled, even the G1 of these lenes are very nice and sharp, fast focus and so affordable.
Looking forward to more reviews on this lens. (even though its a lens I most likely won't get )
p.1 #12 · Tamron refreshes its original 17-28/2.8 with 16-30/2.8 G2.
The available reviews are frustratingly meh. I mean the reviews....they are so meh, I can't really even get a feel for how good the lens is. The only full size samples I've found are on DPReview, but there are only so many bokeh type shots I care to look at from an UWA/WA lens. It's very hard to assess the sharpness across the frame. Tamron of course doesn't really supply anything that you can look at critically. The Phoblographer has even smaller samples.
Any, not really interested either, but I have a friend who hasn't quite found a solution that clicks for him. He thinks this might be it, but dang if you can get much of a feel for how it performs.

The 16-25 2.8 is so good (and slightly shorter) so I'm assuming if I decide to make a change from the 16-35pz, I'd do that over this, but still waiting on more reviews first.

AFAIK, It does not work well with any third party lens.
Good. Your post made me think it did with some, which made me wonder if my cameras were defective or I was just using the wrong third-party lenses. That feature's the only reason I went with the 24-70GMII and not the Sigma Art II.

Agreed, there are no good reviews out there yet... I hope Dustin Abbott gets this lens soon .
For me it's all about the long end and a smallish form factor. Running around with 14-24DN was not as enjoyable as with the new Samyang for example, but there was something about IQ that made me keep the Sigma (I miss the filters though)...
I'm just not sure if 30/2.8 will make enough of a difference ...
