I have a TL2 that I've used regularly for a few years. Recently it just started to not start, not charge, etc, and the battery will also not disengage when I pull the lever and try all I might it will not come out. It really is now on random working mode, where it will charge and turn on sporadically. That said, to me there is a likely a disconnect there, maybe faulty or oxidized contacts. Anyway, at this point sending it in would probably cost half as much as getting a replacement TL2 body, so I'm figuring I'll use that to get another replacement that would work better for me.
In the meantime, I was going to do a little DIY (I've done repairs on film cameras from a Nikon F to a Hasselblad 500C) but I cannot find any one else who has done a Leica TL2 disassembly online. This camera is a solid block, save for screws on the lens mount.
Anyone here have insight or taken this thing apart before? If not, I'll just dive in and see if I can get it open and will of course post the results.
My belief is the TL2 (or T or TL) takes some special tools to get apart. Since it's a unibody camera, guts have to have gone in through the LCD opening. I'm guessing the lens mount is one attachment point looking at mine.
By any chance did you store the TL2 without the battery installed? I had removed the battery from my T for a couple of days. When I inserted a freshly charged battery, it would not turn on. I kept the battery in and tried to switch on the next day...nothing. I waited a couple of weeks then switched it on and it came back up. It's like some capacitors were not charging up quickly enough to turn the camera on. Keeping the battery in seems to work now for me.
