p.1 #1 · Lens has a little bit of play when mounted
When I mount my 70-200GM2 to my A1 the lens has a little of play rotationally. I feel like this is new as it was locked in tight before. I don’t recall this behavior before. Is this normal to have a small amount of play?
I also mounted my Tamron 28-75 and experience the same behavior.
p.1 #3 · Lens has a little bit of play when mounted
I have this with all my lenses on my A1. Once the lens locked in, you can forcefully rotate the lens maybe 0.5-1mm - I've no idea this was normal, but only noticed when I had the camera in my hands for 8+ hours a day for 3 weeks.
Thanks for reminding me to check the screws on the metal mount, I'll try remember to report back.
p.1 #5 · Lens has a little bit of play when mounted
I have something similar with my 100-400GM and as long as it's only rotational and the lens maintains electrical connection with the camera then it's nothing to worry about. Lenses are round, so rotating them doesn't impact their performance! I took a closer look at the 100-400 and discovered the diameter of the locking pin is slightly smaller than the hole it clicks into, hence the play. I assume it's by design to avoid the pin sticking.
p.1 #7 · Lens has a little bit of play when mounted
I don't think I've ever had a camera and lens combination of any brand in 40 years that didn't do that. It's normal. Manufacturing tolerances that allow for interchangeability of lenses at a reasonable cost are the reason. Some small amount of rotational play is always present. When the mounts are newer and tighter it just takes a bit more rotational force to rotate the lens to the stops in either direction.
