p.1 #1 · Switched from 5DIV to 1Dx mk ii- battery question

I just picked up a new body 9000 clicks in perfect shape and was shocked at the prices of the LP-E19 battery that is the "right" one for this camera. The camera came with just one LP-E4 that works but is only at 34% and one bar of life left so shopping for a few new ones.
Will my camera explode with an aftermarket battery like Wasabi or others not Canon brand.
Also the Canon brand shown on the Canon USA website has a blank label on it. Just a red L-glass stripe. I found one at B&H for a lot less than OEM with a one year warranty but there is no brand and no writing on the label. I'll report back when I get it in a few days. Love the better focus and having fun photographing Barn and Cliff Swallows. I have some nice glass, 500mm f4 and 100-400 v2.

I got out of the 1D-series at the 1DX, and so I don't know about any peculiarities with the 1DX II. OTOH, I'd jump on a compatible battery from B&H, as you did.

P.S. Welcome to FM.

The one at B&H is supposed to be an OEM but the photo shows, the same as the Canon USA page, a battery with no writing on it at all. Maybe trying to avoid tariff? I was a member here many years ago and just started getting back into photography. People are starting to realized the value of a "pro" photographer rather than the iPhone snapper so I dusted off the gear. Could not pass up a nearly new 1Dx 2 for $1000 even with a crappy OEM battery at 34%. I joined here to use the Photoshop plug in for making your digital look like Velvia film many years ago.

Depending on what you are shooting you might find you only need one good battery if you just need it to last for the day. 1DX batteries go a long long way.

I haven't bought a third party battery in a while, but back when I did, I found that they did not last as long as the Canon batteries. They would last about a year.

The Canon battery from B&H should arrive with writing on it. Canon's probably just using a generic stock image and shared it with vendors.

What charger did you receive with the camera? There's the original charger that was released with the LPE4/4N batteries back with the 1DIII in ~2007. 1DXII was the first camera that shipped with the second version LCE19 charger, which is required to charge the LPE19 battery. The LCE19 will charge both battery types.

(the black area is an ID sticker that I blacked out in the picture; it won't ship like that).

IIRC, to gain the full capabilities of the camera (14fps), you need the LPE19 battery. I believe all of the 3rd party batteries, even if they claim LPE19 compatibility, report as LPE4 to the camera. You should be OK with 3rd party. They might not last as long as the OEM but are considerably less expensive.

The online images have been blank for many years since the labeling changes. You will receive a battery with appropriate Canon labeling.

I use a combination of Canon OEM and Wasabi Power batteries. I've had great results using Wasabi batteries with my R3, 1Dx, and 1Dx Mark III cameras over the past four years. I recently shot an event with my Canon 1Dx, and after 700 photos, my Wasabi battery still had 72% charge. But, I make sure to use all my batteries by cycling through them.

I have some Calumet(? I think) batteries that are pretty good. 1DXII batteries do last a long time. I have my run the camera and a 200-400L and I can get 2000+ sports JPG shots. Probably could do two games like soccer, LAX or Field hockey- not sure on Football.

I always have a spare battery- or at $1000, a spare 1DXII…. How much is a new battery…

I have two right now. Photonic gangsters- always banging.

I have used the Wasabi batteries alongside the Canon batteries in the 1DX mk II, III, R3 and now the R1's. I have not seen any real difference between the Wasabi batteries and the Canon batteries other than the price.
I did have one Wasabi fail recently after about 4 months of use. I reached out to them and they sent me a replacement battery straight away with no hassle and not even asking me to return the bad one.
I would expect you will have a good experience with them as well.

Thanks all, the B&H battery came in a few days and it's a fully official Canon battery. Just the photo was devoid of witing . I got on on Amazon and bought a brand DTSE? and I charged it up and it showed 84% so back it went and I'm getting a back up brand new LP-E19 from B&H as a spare. I should have this camera a very long time and the Canon brand I think is the way to go.

I had a nice paid shoot for a birthday party and the 1dx delivered. I also just discovered the seller included 4 128GB Cfast cards.
