Been a while since I've rented. I wanted to try out the new Sony 50-150 ƒ2. It arrived this morning. Catch this, inside the box was a pelican case that housed the lens that was perfectly fitted inside it's own soft case that Sony provides. Now that's how to protect a lens for shipping. Spent a few trying it out hand held. Oh the bokeh is sweet! Love the minimal motion needed to move the zoom from 50 to 150mm. Sports testing is Friday and Saturday.

You also get to keep the case if you decide to buy that lens ... (if possible, may not be an option on a newly released lens)
You keep the primary lens pouch or whatever it is in, but not the pelican style case. So for a big tele like a 600/4 you get a Lightware or Tenba case or something well padded like that, but not the ~20 lb. pelican.

It's been like that for many years now. I recall that Roger Cicala stated that the cases eliminated the need for shipping insurance since they are so rugged.
It's been a while since I've rented anything it came as a pleasant surprise. Had no idea Roger made the change but obviously it was a good move to incorporate a Pelican.

I have the SKB case (better than Pelican IMO. But it was for a 50mm TSE Canon, not one of the big tele primes or zooms.
