Fantastic range and size. Hoping for slightly softer corner sharpness wide open to maintain low CA. With that size, range, and aperture something has to be sacrificed.

It probably has tons of light falloff. The main question is whether it is highly distorted and requires computational correction. Those and the lack of VR must save some cost.

Very interesting specs - just 450g, 67mm filters. We‘ll see what the trade-offs will be to achieve this..
Personally I‘d be even more interested in an 18-40mm f2.8 (maybe as an update to their existing 20-40mm), but if this one turns out to be good, I’d consider it too.

Another wan attempt to recapture the excellence (focal length-wise) of the old F mount AF-S 17-35/2.8.
I hold open the possibility that it might be a good and useful lens, despite not going to 35mm on the long end.

Some people say its soft on edges, some say its brilliant.
I can have brand new Nikon 17-28mm for £760, against this 16-30mm for £849 in August. Dont know what I should get. Leaning towards Nikon lens.

The Nikon 17-28 is just the G1 version of the Tamron with a Nikon shell. By most accounts the 16-30 is superior...and the 17-28 is a good lens. I think it's a no-brainer to wait for the 16-30 if you're considering the 17-28.

Thinking about picking one of these up for a trip...never seen one sold here, and never seen a single image from one here...does ANYONE own one?
yeah, I would like to know if its better than Nikon 17-28mm, as I'm planning to buy one for those.
For me it would be either used 17-28 or new 16-30, price wise. That Fn button would be nice for my Zf as extra thingy.

FM has been thoroughly useless for this for once. Every review I've seen says that if you don't have either, just get the 16-30. Faster focus motors, slightly better focal range, internal-ish zoom (excepting the front element moving around), good flare resistance, Tamron lens app customizability, and cheaper.
Sounds like 30mm is the weak end of this lens at wider apertures.
I ordered one from Kenmore (the only place I could find a Z version in stock), and ironically will be taking it to Seattle next week, will report back. At least if it stinks I can return it in person

Awesome, thanks Scott. If you gonna like it, then I know I can buy it

I'm waiting for Scott to share his thoughts on this lens once he gets it, especially on Zf.
This will be the Zf's first time in legit rain, so I'm looking forward to telling you it held up to the PNW...I needed a good rain resistant wide, so the Tamron fit the bill with the internal zoom.
