p.1 #1 · Gitzo GT2545T Series 2 Traveler and the Leofoto LS-364C X Version Ranger Series Tripod -LS-364CX+LH-47

A comparison on these two tripods from a newbie.

These two tripods are build for two different purposes. One is for packing light and travel or walking around and the other is not.

The Leofoto LS 364 CX is a very nice tripod. It is built really well and the ball head is really nice and very smooth working. Handles the weight (6.5 lbs) of the camera and lens very well.

LS-364CX Tripod + LH-47 Screw-Knob Ballhead:

Max. height: 1575mm / 62.01''
Min. height: 188mm / 7.40''
Folded length: 638mm / 25.12''
Leg Section: 4
Max load: 25kg / 55lb
Weight: 2.41kg / 5.31lb

Leg Tube Sizes: 36/32/28/25mm

The Leofoto LS 364 is 1.25 lbs heavier and 7.63 in longer folded then the Gitzo. The circumference right above the leg locks folded is 10.5” vs 12” for the Gitzo.

At 25.12” folded, the Leofoto would not be practical to travel (hiking/flying/walking) with but if you are traveling in a car and can pull it out and set it up, it would be perfect. I think the Leofoto deploys faster. The legs locks are smoother. Much sturdier. I like the LH 47 ball head better. Setting up for wild life or landscape photography near the car would be great. Maybe walking a short distance carrying it would be fine too.

It came with a nice case, interchangeable feet and weight hook where the Gitzo did not. Also the Gitzo ball head plate did not have any rubber on it to help keep the plate secure to the camera.

The gitzo Series 2 Traveler is a nice size to hike and fly with. It handles the 6.5 lbs but the ball head is not as smooth with the weight. I don’t like the design of the ball head as good as the Leofoto but it is smaller making the overall package smaller for travel. It will do it’s job.

The Leofoto is my favorite between the two however for travel, I like the compactness of Gitzo. Do I need both? Who knows. I would like to just make do with the Gitzo but I really like the Leofoto.

I always use my Gitzo 3 series systematic for travel. I fits fine in a 30' rolling duffel with the ball and/or gimbal head removed (QR). Even my cheapie Leophotos 324CEX leveler goes in the luggage. One thing I disdain about the Leo is that the narrow leg angle is ridiculous. I used a grinder to remove some material from the stops to widen the angle so that it doesn't fall over in the wind.

I don’t believe this new version, legs are to narrow. The legs seem to support it well. The angles are, 23-, 55-, and 85°. It definitely has a nice wide and supportive stance.

The Gitzo mountaineer angle are 24°, 55°, 82° in comparison.
