The owner likely swapped the original Leica red dot for a "Leitz" version. As far as I know, special editions usually come with a screw instead of a red dot. The only new Leica camera that comes with a Leitz red dot from the factory is the M6 Reissue. It's possible the M11 owner found a third-party version (Ebay) or took one from another Leica camera.

I think it was DAG who replaced my Leica M6’s red dot with a black dot so I could be all John Cena in the street. It said Leica though, and I think it was the usual adhesive variety — ME leftovers?
