What do you prefer in setting ISO for the M11, and what are the preferred settings for the function buttons ?

I usually leave my ISO to auto and adjust my shutter speed. 1/125 indoors then something faster outside depending on aperture.

Another option is to leave the dial set to "M" and set the "M" setting to Auto in the menu.
That gives you the same result as using Auto, but lets you quickly change the ISO in-camera without having to move the dial.

I mostly use auto as well. But if I’m using manual ISO I just leave the dial up for the session. I’ll pushed the dial down when I know I want to lock the ISO off far a while or I’m using auto.

Using the dial doesn’t bother me as much as it does some.

Since I find the left side ISO dial is so awkward and slow to use, I set the ISO dial to M. I then set the click function of the thumb wheel to the M function. I usually leave the M function set to Auto. This gives me instant full manual control of the thumb wheel ISO pretty much instantly when I want it, otherwise Auto ISO is the choice because the camera is very good at choosing the lowest possible ISO for proper exposure. This results in the highest IQ for the situation.

I set the non click function of the thumb wheel to Exposure Compensation. Since I always manually control both Aperture and Shutter Speed by dial EC only adjusts ISO. This gives me 6 stops of ISO to fine tune exposure with a simple control wheel turn.

Tons of easy fast exposure control.

This is what I do too. Very convenient.

Always have my ISO dial on A/Auto ISO unless I need to override to get ISO 64 in low light landscape while the camera is supported on something sturdy like a fence post, etc. The only other time I move the ISO dial off A would be to M, which I have preset to a very high ISO in order to introduce “grain” (noise) into an image taken in brighter light.

FN button I leave at default setting — need that to turn LV off and on, which I do a lot. Function button on the top plate I set to magnification to assist with focusing when using the rear screen. Double tap of the rear screen resets the focus point to the center, so I don’t need to waste a function button for that. Rear wheel press I set to Exposure comp, which is extremely helpful because even with the LCD off, pressing it will show the exposure comp menu on the black LCD. This lets me check and set/reset exposure comp without having to turn on LV or having to look though the rangefinder. My only gripe about changing EC via the button press when LV is off is I have to press the wheel button a second time to commit any changes, unlike changing EC via the wheel while in LV or looking through the rangefinder, which are realtime changes.
