A $20 adapter puts my Leica lenses on my Sony A7CII and it works great. For the times I don't want to shoot film in my M6's.
But a native Leica M mount Xpro style full frame body even at $4K would probably be as hard to buy as an X100VI. Fuji's leaving a lot of money untapped.
I won’t argue with that, adapting lenses on mirrorless cameras is what I’ve done for quite some time, it has always been the next best thing but after a few years, I still yearn for a brand to make a true stills camera, I don’t want super fast autofocus to track a bird on a plane or 16k video with 12 letters codecs.
Beside Leica, it has taken ten years to have something like the Zf and still it’s quite not that yet. That Bizarre Fuji is not so bizarre to me, the lever, the screen with the analog film settings, the fake window for the film simulation, the date stamp option are things I would like to see on a high end full frame camera.
I don’t doubt there’s a market for that.

Yup, that works for me. I'm also seeing all the "I could just use my smartphone" comments, and thinking... Yes, but.. do you want to? For me, that shooting experience is just terrible.
Anyway, what appeal the most to me about this, is actually the things I think it could teach me about photography. Or maybe more like... sharpen my eye. It's essentially photography without the usual crutches; forget shallow DOF. Cropping power, very little. Super fine IQ, nah. Heavy PP? Limited options with jpeg.
I'm fairly sure this camera would have me approaching photography differently, and for sure having to work more for it. It does need to come down in price though. ~990 here, oof. ...Show more →
I’m sure a lot of people have already made the 'just use your smartphone' comment since the final image can look quite similar. Many of them probably understand how sensor size limits depth of field. But I think there are also a lot of photographers who may not be as familiar with those details. They might see the Fujifilm branding, the fact that it’s a "real" camera, and the f/2.8 aperture, and assume they'll be able to get shallow depth of field images that just aren't really possible with this setup.
Not for me and likely not for most in this forum. But Fujifilm will sell a shit ton of these.
Millenials will be all over this. Even my daughter bought a simply awful *Kodak* point and shoot rather than a free camera from dad specifically because it takes *cool crappy* photos and isn’t a phone. This is exactly what she wants and she can afford it. I asked if she wanted an X100 and she said too big and too complicated.
The *half* likely means half a step up from Instax, Fujis biggest market by a country mile. Bag out this cameras lack of features all you want but Lomo, Instax and Camp Snap say that the market wants this camera.
I stayed up late and ordered one ... just in case I woke up and regretted not ordering one to avoid the 4 year wait list.
But this morning I did "wake up" and then I actually regretted ordering one ... so now all I have to do is cancel my pre-order. I love the idea, the innovation, and all that, and wouldn't think twice for $499. But $900 including tax is pretty stiff for that kind of fun.
That said, with the whole "classic" marketing talk of the upcoming XE5, I'm really hoping they take the general body design of the X Half and use it for the XE5 (sharper corners on the left side, rounded Leica M style corners on the right). That would be cool.

Lomo, Instax and CampSnap can be had for under $100.

True but they also cost a lot more to run. This will be cheaper in the long run.
I sent the product link to my 24y/o. She wants one. She says her friends will want one. I asked why and she said it’s small and cool. She wants to take photos but not with her phone. But mostly because it looked like it would be fun.
It’s really expensive for what it is. But I think there’ll still be a wait list.

I guess a lot depends on how Fuji promotes it too. If they have a strong social media presence for it the hipsters will eat it up like the FUJIFILM X100VI.

First impression: it looks fun and awful at the same time. The fun is in the mini-Leica form factor. The awful is in the very small sensor, the contrast-detect autofocus, the film wind lever, the cold flash shoe, no raw file, etc.
Edited to add: despite the name, it's not a "Half" camera. APS-C is already *about* half of a full 35mm frame. This camera is half of a half. So it's more like a "Quarter" camera.

What I suggest is get your daughter a CampSnap now for $40-$50 to tide her over until the Fuji is eventually released. She’ll most probably lose the desire for the Fuji by the time it is available and you’ll be up $800…

Been watching a few video reviews... there are some really interesting things going on here, and a few gimmicky things. I thought we were "done" with light leak filters and date stamps, but I guess not.
At $499, it could have been a great gift for a kid who wants to get into photography, or for an adult who has an artistic eye and wants to try something new. At $1000 (including tax), I don't know.
But if you've had your eye on an X100VI, but can't sit on a waiting list for a year or more ... why not try this?
+1 as a starter / gateway. If it wasn't priced this much, and I didn't have so many grandkids, it would make a great gift. I should write it in my will, that all the grandkids get one, though.

Sadly this ain't millenials but Gen Zers from an age demographic perspective. The cheap digital point and shoot trend is to Gen Zers what film cameras were to millennials (there's a reason why the X100VI and film simulations are popular...). Maybe the next set of kids will want DSLRs...

I totally get why many people will love the form factor. The film simulation window and overall camera design are really appealing. But the main drawback is that most folks already carry a phone in their pockets for everyday snapshots. As Chase Jarvis put it in his book title, "The best camera is the one that's with you"... and for a lot of situations, that's still our phones.
I might be a little off, but from what I can tell, the iPhone's main camera at its default focal length gives you a DOF (full-frame) equivalent of around f/6.2, compared to about f/8.2 on the new Fuji.
Take the iPhone 15 Pro, for example:
• The main camera has an actual FL of around 6.86mm
• A maximum f/1.78 aperture
• And a sensor crop factor of roughly 3.5x compared to full frame
So the DOF equivalence works out to about f/1.78 × 3.5 = f/6.2
Now, the Fujifilm "half" camera:
• The lens has a real focal length of 10.8mm
• A full-frame equivalent of about 32mm
• Aperture is f/2.8
• Sensor crop factor is also close to 2.94x
So its DOF equivalence is roughly f/2.8 × 2.94 = f/8.2
