I’m still using my old 6D. I guess I’ll eventually move to an R, but for now, I’m still shooting with a toddler in tow!
Today, I came across a 6D Mark II on Facebook Marketplace for what seems like a fair price. The seller says it has less than 10K shutter count and was bought in late 2022. They’re asking $320.
Would this be a worthwhile upgrade, or just a waste of money?
If you are going to move sooner then I would keep what you have until your jump. If your going to stay with dSLR's for a while then I would look to a newer model 5D rather than just jumping up 1 version.
I suppose it always depends on the use , preferences etc but I think it would be a worthwhile upgrade generally speaking. That is about half the current used price, just looked it up, surprised! How far wrong can you really go paying $320 for a ff body assuming it's as advertised etc
Back in the day I upgraded from the 6D to the 6D MK II. No real difference in image quality for stills but the 6D MK II has a much better AF system: all cross AF sensors. You can use off-center focus without doing the lock-AF-recompose dance. Also, it has decent dual pixel AF in live view and video modes, similar to the 80D but basic compared to a modern R series camera. It was good enough for my talking head and guitar videos. No 4K or clean HDMI output.
I would save up a bit more and get either an RP or an R8 with an EF/RF adapter for your current lenses.
I was never happy with 6dmk2. While it felt fantastic in my hand, the IQ wasn't all that great. I could never get a super sharp image with it tegardless of whatever lens I mounted on it.
Well
I bought my used mint 6dii 2yrs ago
Never used it once!!
Then 2wks ago I decided I’d try it with sons football
I normally use 5diii and 100-400Lii
But I wanted a change
So took the6dii and 70-300 is ii nano….
Wow, the camera had zero issues tracking my son running
I’m back again this weekend and I’m taking the 6dii again.

I remember looking at it, do you still have your 6D2 review up? Very extensive
6D2 seemed to me to have a worse sensor than 6D. Both are the "old" sensors (like 5D3 and also it seems EOS RP). I just held to 6D until I went for R6/2. It was such a major leap forward, even though I did have quite an intensive 1D2N experience.
Didn’t think 6d ii sensor was actually worse. Thanks for the insight.

I don't think anybody can see the difference in sensors between the 6Ds, and nobody could tell from looking at an image or two what camera took what. For that price the 6DII is a bargain and if I had that offer I'd jump on it.
Yes, the R6/II is a much better focussing camera, esp the eye tracking, but there isn't a great deal of difference between the sensors of the 4 cameras, 6D, 6dII, R6, R6II.
Just picked it up.
It looks brand new, hardly used.
I found a speck of dust on the sensor and seller voluntarily lowered the price to $300.
The articulated touch screen and AF system is a big leap from 6D and it felt like it was focusing faster to points.
Thanks for all the advice really. The seller received many many msgs but decided to sell it to me.
I can’t even imagine what R5 or R6 ii are like.
But I am happily living in the past with my ef lenses lol
FYI, I had gotten the 6D mk2 upgrade form 6D back in the day. I upgraded due to the dual pixel AF which as fairly new at the time and the flippy screen. Some critics had complained of the dynamic range but this was never an issue for me in good lighting.

Respect to you mate for going your own way and not just following the herd 👍🏻
I’m out with mine again tomorrow. Just checked battery… still 86% left after using last weekend!! 🤣
Haha. I am just slowly following the trace of the herd.
I will get to the R series eventually but as an occasional user, this is more than enough for me. My lovely ef glasses will outlive all those bodies I have owned combined and will eventually get to the r body as well.
I am not as enthusiastic as before but the new body is fascinating for someone from a decade ago!
