Zeiss have also posted a teaser on their IG page mentioned news is coming soon so lets see what gets announced.
I like what Andrea/SAR wrote here: ( but maybe a bit premature...we shall see)
"It is very good news for the entire industry that Zeiss is back! Such a name has too much history to have disappeared from the photographic market forever. It also means that the company now sees the market as ‘safe’ enough to develop and launch new lenses without the risk of failing to sell. I also think that introducing a new ‘Otus’ range makes more sense than introducing new, more affordable Milvus, Batis, Loxia and Touit lenses. Highest quality is what we expect from Zeiss and enough people will be willing to pay the high price to get the typical Zeiss look."
Comments on this SAR post include speculation for multiple mounts ( not just Emount), if any of these new "Zeiss hint" speculations come to be, along with the Emount, I'd also love for a Zeiss Otus L-Mount too!

Which is exactly why I think it will just be Otus lenses now with E-mount.
Given today's market and more important excellent optics from CV, Sony, Sigma and maybe a few others not sure it would be a wise move to come back in. First I will not buy a Batis type lens without a AF/MF switch and a Custom function lens button like we have today in other lenses and as we get smaller in cameras we are losing custom function buttons ala like the A7RC which I lost at least one button maybe even 2. I will also not buy a Loxia lens anymore as their ergos suck compared to like CV glass. Even the Otus lenses where big and heavy are they going to redesign them to match even Sony's glass. Question can they get to a Sony 85 1.4 Version 2 in size, weight and pricing. Not to mention optical quality in that mix. To me the only way this may work is get smaller, lighter , cheaper have great Ergos and compete in this new market. Not sure adding that all up would work but love to be wrong on it.

Don't get your hopes up.
It will probably just be the existing Otus lenses with built in native E-mount.
Which is still quite nice. I would be interested in the 28mm and the 100mm.
There is no real rival to the Otus 28, wheras one could argue that the Voigtländer 110 is quite close from f2.5
But it will be quite difficult to surpass the new Sony 50/1.4 or 85/1.4
But who knows, Zeiss is always good for a surprise. They do have the expertise to do it.
(And a long legacy)

I had the Otus 55 in the past and I still think it was my best lens ever. Although difficult to focus on my Nikon D800. I sold it because I left the DSLR platform. It would be very nice to have such a lens again on mirrorless without adaptor and with the focussing aids that mirrorless offer.

Wow, it’s real! The 85/1.4 APO-Planar
I’m curious whether it’s just a new housing for different mounts or if there are any optical changes.
I've always thought Zeiss should have released a mirrorless line up that acted as a high end alternative to Sony's GM line, hopefully this is what we will get. Only this time with GM level AF performance/XD linear motors.

Is there really a market for Gigantic Zeiss Otus lenses on Sony bodies today? Optics are great- So is all of the Sony GM lenses for cheaper and smaller-
I just couldn't see many people shelling out money for a massive lens, that is 12 years old at this point for what gains?

This is exciting news. Hopefully they announce that it will be available for multiple mirrorless mounts and I hope that there is a tweaking on the optical changes.
Any chance of having this thread show up in also in the Leica+Alt forum. I am sure many of us who aren't Sony shooters would want to see this.

If it turns out to be just native versions of existing Otus designs, then is seems more like Zeiss is just hanging around... If it's new Otus designs for mirrorless, then I would say Zeiss is back.
