The prices haven't begun to fall on used Z9s, they are holding steady at 3800 and have been for a while. This summer when the rumor mill heats up will be better. There's no "shutter count" worry on the Z9, just get a clean body and you're golden.
They have fallen, not precipitously, but they definitely have fallen. I am asking $3700 for a mint example here, and no bites yet.
A used Z9 in very clean condition sold for $3000 a couple days ago and didn't go right away either. MPB has some as low as $3500 in excellent condition.
I miss owning a Z9 and only have a Z8 at the moment. The ONLY thing that prevents me from buying one is that it STILL lacks pixelshift mode that is on the Z8, Z6iii, and ZF.

Yup - and it's a 6 year cycle for the camera platform - all their development effort has been put into lenses because lenses are the only important thing according to their customer surveys.
There was 2-years between Z6/Z7 and Z6 II and Z7 II and a little less than 4 for the Z6 III. Hopefully its not a let down like the P1100 was after 7 years
Other than the GFX 100 ii i just got, the Z9 and A1 sensors have been my favorite amongst all newer cameras. So if it keeps the same sensor I'm fine with it. They'll likely add 30FPS RAW to stay up with the others, and if they throw fine tunable raw pre-capture to it, that would be nice too. Second gen AF and up the EVF to the 9million dot panel that the R1 and GFX have and I'm in!

This is funny, as the more cameras I use around the Z9, the less I like the Z9 sensor. For action, it's great, but I'm finding that I'd much rather pull out the ZF or 100S instead for anything else.

I haven't used the ZF, but in the 2 weeks I've had the Fuji, I almost cant put it down it's turning me into a snob !
The Z9 is my main wildlife rig and the best one I've had thus far. That may be because its usually mounted to a 400/600TC but it delivers every time, and the files are beautiful. I prefer them just slightly, over my Canons.
My GFX100S replaced my Z9 as my headshot camera for a reason. RoamingScott wrote:

Monitor or eyeglass upgrade time, then
I used the best Eizo available on the market, thank you. A possible upgrade would be to go for Nikon glasses, but other than that mine are top notch, thank you again.

I'm mostly interested in seeing what RED stuff gets integrated, though just interested in the academic sense as I shoot stills. If they were really smart they'd give us raw histograms and traffic lights (and for stills too).
In the meantime you can jump into Red workflow now, no new camera needed. This is the way forward.

You pay a price for that speed. If you don't need the speed, the non-stacked sensors deliver better IQ.
It's just a bunch of little things at low ISO (a bit more DR, a bit more colour depth), but the end result is just nicer files
It's one reason I hope Nikon will bring out a Zfx that is just the Zf with the Z7II sensor (I think if we see an actual Z7III, it will be a higher-MP sensor to create more differentiation between the Z7III and the Z8). The 45MP non-stacked sensor is my current all-time favourite (with the 24MP Z6/Z6II/Zf sensor tied with the old 36MP D800 sensor for second place)
Too much to ask for just a new and improved stacked sensor? Or is this the type of sensor we will see for the next 10 years? Continued improvement on AF would be nice as well which I'm assuming would happen if Expeed 8 is released at the same time.

I would ditch both my ZF and GFX for this camera It would simplify my life TREMENDOUSLY.

Any 5K display and you will start noticing the difference. 4K not so much.
My prediction on specs. This is based on seeing how Nikon is pushing more into video, especially with what we saw with the firmware updates on teh Z9 giving it shutter angle and also based on the Z6 III. I think the NLOG2 will trickle down to the Z8 and Z6 III if they aren't released sooner via firmware update.

You can't do that AF spec with the same sensor, there's physical differences required to do cross-type AF (at a minimum a different set of PDAF filtration and orientation which must be taken into account by the bayer demosaic algorithm.
Right now the only cross-type on-sensor PDAF sensor is the OM 20MP sensor, which is actually an 80 million sensor site sensor with both binning and each PDAF site using 4 photodiodes each with a different orientation half-filter.

thank you for filling me in, than perhaps the same AF as before? Maybe improved algo's?
