Mine shows shipped from B&H as well. I live in Maine so it will most likely arrive tomorrow. No Ospreys up here for another 2 weeks or so, so looks like I will have to go find a duck or an eagle.

Canada geese will do too.

I ordered a Chasing Bird lens cover for that without looking much into it 😂. Is that pretty much comparable to that of RolanPro or slightly thicker and more neopreney as Lens Coat?

Chasing Birds is the best of the three in my opinion. Similar neoprene to Lenscoat but with finished seams on each section, so they don't roll over and fray as they age which is the Lenscoat problem. I've now got Chasing Birds on my 300mm GM, 70-200mm GM II, and TCs & happy with all of them.

Mine is still showing Order in Progress. I didn't get the order in to B&H until about 4.5 hours after ordering went live (stupid work getting in the way of my GAS). Hopefully it will get shipped today or tomorrow, as I leave for a trip on Wednesday morning.

Until very recently, the US and EU are the leaders in pushing for sustainable packaging.
I think there is an incredibly small chance that these packaging changes would not stand up to scrutiny regarding their validity. Failing would result in corporate embarrasment and cost.

I still maintain "cheap" is a better description. You can still have have pretty, printed packaging that's compliant, but you have to use more expensive inks

I do like the fit of chasing birds as well as the cut outs. Their neoprene is thinner than Lenscoat. They used to be a cheap alternative but are creeping up in price. I wonder how much those Chinese ladies make per hour?

I ordered one from them too but it will take a while to get here. I have been using Alphgrvd skins on my 200-600, 300 GM and 600 GM, they look nice but it's a pain to put them on. They don't really offer much protection. Also have the RolanPro for the 600 GM, not really a fan. Will see how the Chasing Bird cover is.

Here is my early take. I love almost everything about this lens. Full time DMF is a great upgrade. Sharpness is great. The focus range having a 10m to Close focus option is fantastic!!!! Love the 105mm front cap vs the leather thing on 300mm GM. The love/hate piece is that the zoom ring is easy and smooth enough to move with one finger, the hate piece is its easy to drift off 800mm accidentally (like my Bluebird on image thread). The hate piece is they should have at least included a felt bag. I have a 100% crop up in image thread.

I received my copy and spent about 6 hours yesterday shooting a great blue heron rookery and wild turkeys. I was very impressed with the focus speed with A1ii and the smooth zoom from 400-800 is great. Lens is sharp, no doubt. The ability to use 400 to find the bird and quickly zoom to 800 once locked on was great. I had the lens on a gimbal while shooting at the rookery. The teeny foot is a joke. I will be meeting with Promediagear this weekend to do foot measurements. I cannot wait for them to make a new foot with arca and quick release.

All things considered, I think the lens could allow me to leave the 600f4 at home for certain types of shooting, but the lens is heavy. Balanced better than 2-6, but heavier. I'm thinking I will always have a monopod handy when I venture out with this lens. Handholding on the turkeys for about 20 minutes had my forearms burning by the time they wandered off. I think a monopod and Promediagear tomahawk are a perfect combo for this lens (at least as far as how I will use it in the field).

I will post most of my images in the image thread, but sticking one here. First is a medium crop, the second is 100% crop. Both processed using Adobe ARC and no added sharpening beyond default conversion.

Appreciate your initial impressions!

Just to clarify, aftermarket feet for the 600f4/400f2.8 definitely don’t fit on this lens?

Not sure. I am still using the stock foot on the 600f4 because I like the padded fake leather part of it and it is a decent sized foot for an arca plate.

I can check the 2 feet tonight to see if the screws line up. I have the 4-8 with me right now (600 at home) and the flat part of the foot is 3 1/4" long. The screws on either side are about 3/8" apart. There is an integrated loop in the rear portion of the foot. I can PM you a photo of the foot if you'd like to see it.

Nah, that’s not necessary. My lens is arriving today. So I can just check later. I just thought I’d ask you since you mentioned you also have a 600mm.

Appreciate the reply though! Thanks!

Its a bad foot for sure. It only has one 1/4" threaded hole. In my opinion, a lens of this size needs a 4.5" plate and two 1/4" mounting holes or the plate could shift.
