p.1 #1 · Canon RF 24mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM - Image Tread

Hey Gang, I'm new here but I'm a long time lurker. I searched and I didn't see an image thread for the Canon RF 24mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM lens. Can some users of this lens post some photos up so we have a reference of how it performs?

Never owned it, but in addition to the images that will be uploaded here I always like to check out the galleries at Juzaphoto. I'll provide the link to this particular lens:

https://www.juzaphoto.com/recensione.php?l=en&t=canon_rf24_f1-8stm

It doesn't appear to have many samples for this lens in particular, but most lenses do. I'd also google "Flickr canon rf 24mm 1.8" for additional galleries.

Thx for the tips, I've spent a lot of time cruising Flickr over the years but always enjoyed seeing the talent of this group.

I use the RF 24 1.8 Macro IS STM. Nice little lens, perfect for flowers, docs, flat art and walking around with. The IS function, coupled with IBIS, is amazing. For video, the net effect is almost like using a gimbal. AF is more surefooted than the RF 35 1.8 Macro IS STM and it can take a normal hood (rather than having a macro ring mount). Beautiful indeed!

I´m looking into the 24 and 35mm f/1.8 macros for documenting some biological stuff that would benefit from a flat field the size of around 1x1 ft perhaps a bit larger. I presently use the 24-105STM that is sharp enough in the part of interest, but has a curved field forcing me to use higher f/ than I like. If the 24mm works for docs and flat art, I suppose I can hope it would be flatter than the zoom?! Oh, feeling some incoming GAS here...

Like all new RF designs, the RF 24 1.8 Macro IS STM is designed to be used with software correction for barreling and light fall off. With default JPEG (in-camera) or RAW (software) corrections enabled docs and flat art are true and accurate. With that said, if you disable lens profile corrections in LR, there is some barreling and light falloff, However, the amount is considerably less compared to the RF 24-105 IS STM zoom. That zoom totally blacks out in the corners!

The RF 35 1.8 Macro IS STM is a little easier to use if you actually work close to the .5X magnification. At 24mm .5X is a bit too close to get decent light on the subject. Plus, the RF 35 1.8 Macro IS STM has a groove for the Canon's ring light.

I don't use mine too often but it is a nice lens. 24mm is just a bit wide for me to use very regularly but here's three examples.

If I ever pick up an APS-C RF camera it would likely be my main lens on it because the 38.4mm equivalent is so close to 40mm which is a focal length I'm a very big fan of.

Lovely photos, this lens looks to be very sharp. I used to enjoy shooting the EF 28/1.8 for environmental portraits. I'm hoping this lens would be good for that as well.
