I enjoy this photo, Morris! Middle and far right bull look similar in age, although the far right bull looks slightly older. If that's the case, they are aligned perfectly from young to older. Awesome back drop!

Thank you Matt,

I had not noticed there ages. There size may be hard to judge taken at such a wide angle and the far left one furthest away. It's an interesting observation.

Great images Morris! I've been there during lightning storms and am always amazed how they can remain so calm at those times.

I really like this shot Morris. I have spent countless hours in the park over the years and your image captures the mood perfectly with how the storms roll in and out along Trail Ridge Road. Well done !

Great photo. You handled the massive dynamic range well.
I have not been there in a while and miss it.

Beautiful as is despite the bright corner. I wouldn't bother with any sky PS tricks. Like others have said the depth and peaceful "feel" is wonderful.

Thank you Al,

I'd be very uneasy up there during a lightning storm.

Thank you Greg,
Moments later the cloud on the right rolled in and blocked the view leaving only the elk visible.

Thank you David,
It was a tricky exposure and took lots of carful processing

Thank you Jim,

I've done quite a lot of post processing to get the sky and land to look decent without harming the image.

I Really like this shot Morris just as it is. I’ve played around with the sky replacement thing on some of my photos a little bit, but it just doesn’t have an appeal to me when it comes to photo legitimacy. A little bit of retouching removing stick in the way or something like that… OK fine, but replacing half of an image….. eh, probably not.

The Elk are looking right at that front coming in… probably wondering what they’re in for.

Thank you Terry,

We were wondering the same as the Elk about that approaching cloud. A moment later, all you cloud see were the Elk. I like to work with what I have when I can yet I'll do digital art as well yet always say when I've done this.

Ripper Royal Velvet!

The low clouds coming over the windward side of the ridge look to be either dissipating in the warmer air of the drainage or heralding the forthcoming snow. You're seriously stealthy given the 24mm and that the bulls didn't at least stand when one enters their buffer zone.

Have been similarly blessed with alpine adventures in WA, MT and WY. Had 3 calves, 5 cows and a royal bull move out of the heavy timber onto a steep sage slope a few years back. Heard them approaching and got intimate with a Christmas tree near the edge of the timber. They browsed right up to me as the bull was being romantic with a cow and the calves nibbled and frolicked. Felt the wind gently swirl, causing one of the nearby cows to brace and look me right in the eyes before there were flying hooves and snow. Still makes me smile....

Impressive view of the Continental Divide from 12,000 feet and the peaceful elk..

My daughter lives in Lakewood CO; we have plans to explore the NP and wildlife-rich CO.
