p.3 #1 · What Cameras and Lenses Do You Wish Sony to Launch in 2025?
I don't expect any cameras to be coming in 2025 that I'll be interested in. The A9 and A1 series are too new to be updated for a few more years. May be interesting (and infuriating) to see what new innovations Sony sticks in A7V and A7RVI that they decided not to introduce in the A1II. That seems to be a Sony trend.
For lenses, the rumoured 400GMII with built in 1.4TC would be very interesting to me. If the lens can take TCs (both internal and external) as well as the 300GM then I would replace my 600GM with the 400TC.
Otherwise, I'm pretty happy with my 600GM and 300GM and even with my 100-400 when I need it for semi-macro. So not really lusting for much in the lens department.

Like to see a A7RV with faster electronic shutter read out speeds or even drop a global shutter in it. Love it as it is today but with mechanical shutter . Actually my rental comes today here in LA. Be nice not to fight the LED stage lighting I'm up against

It won't happen but I'd love to see Sony really take the APSC line seriously. There's such an opportunity there with inexpensive and smaller lenses. Even 10 years ago crop frame cameras were an option for pros. I even think the RX10 could be really interesting if they stopped chasing the mega zoom and go back to a faster lens.

I think a higher resolution APS-C camera is all I’m interested in for this year. I could then sell my full frame gear and be exclusively in APS-C. I do like the 6700 but there’s room for improvement in the line.

I honestly can't think of anything Sony is genuinely lacking in the camera department. I want a 100MP landscape camera with a FF sensor in the A7CR body, but that's clearly not going to come this year.
On the lens side, built-in TCs do have some advantages so a 400 / 600 with 1.4x would be nice. I would purchase and use an 800/5.6 or 6.3 if they built it. First-party T/S lenses would be nice, perhaps 20mm, 50mm and a 90 macro?
I'd buy and use a 200/2 but can't imagine there is enough of a demand for Sony to build it.
Honestly, we are so incredibly spoiled for choice in Sony these days...

Looks like we're all in agreement, gentlemen! All Sony needs to do is to launch a high-end 28mm lens. nothing else is badly lacking.
Indeed. One can only hope but I have been asking for this lens for so many years with Sony reps. I really don't understand why there isn't one especially with some of the weird and wonderful focal lengths out there!!

a brand new 1" sensor would be great, then update the RX line
I still think they should make the Xperia camera, their phones have great sensor+lenses bud bad support to shine in the mobile market, would be cool to see what a dedicated camera with multiple lenses could do
and overall just other minor things I really hope it becomes standard on their cameras from now on like internal storage, tilt+flip LCD, focus mapping for stills, custom LUTs on JPGs, and bring back smooth reflections please...

AIIC
A7V (this one is definitely coming in 2025)
A7 Series Retro and 40G retro edition lens (like Nikon)
85 or 90 G (super compact like 24/40/50 G lenses)
A Pancake lens (28mm or 35mm)
Remove artificial restriction of 15 FPS on third party lenses

I'd like a new range of complementary tele zooms, perhaps a 200-400 and a 400-600 to give us something slightly faster at the long ends than the current 100-400 and 200-600. No built-in TC, and perhaps even a G designation rather than GM to keep the price down. It'll never happen, of course, but one can dream about a zoom that closes the gap a bit with the spendy primes. A 200-400 with built in TC would be a great wildlife lens, too, but probably as expensive as the Canon version and too spendy for me.
Everyone talks about wanting a new version of the 100-400 but I have no problem with the current one. It's sharp enough, light enough and has very useful close focus capability. Maybe I just got a good copy, or maybe I'm not a pixel peeper.

Im quoting myself because after I wrote this running some tests on my new Mac I ran into this session back in NY 2023 with the A7RV and this directly relates to my comment and it's about banding. This is the background in the ballroom so all light should be smooth and even look at the banding.

I was testing the scene athan went into Variable shutter and I think I even had anti flicker on when I actually shot the models. Here is a shot later with I think the correct settings to get rid of it

Sorry to interrupt but this gets talked about but we need to find cams that get rid of it . Now the A1II has much better AF tracking and far better electronic shutter I may go back to using it or use the A9III with global shutter and use a 1.4 to get back my 300mm instead of crop mode.

My list is very random IMO.
120-300 2.8 GM that takes TC's
Refreshed 24-200 (or more?) superzoom
Refreshed & smaller 70-300
200 f/2 that works very well with TC's
A 15mm the size of the 24G

I'd love to see a small, lighter version of the 24-105. Even better would be a 24-120 like Nikon.
Also, I'd be interested in some updated iteration of the 200-600. Perhaps make it a GM, maybe lighter, faster AF a bit sharper, particularly on the outer third of the images...
